You may have "felt" it, but I doubt your personal freedoms were protected under law.
It was just different, hard to quantify. The difference in policing is most notable, along with the lack of religious influences on their laws.

I don't think people are Conservative over issues...issues change...I think they are Conservative over a gut feeling that doesn't change. Big Picture.
Interesting take. I believe you mean conservatives see a particular view of the country in which certain values are the standard for the country en masse?
If that’s the case, what are core values you believe should be espoused.

-freedom vs equality
-traditional societal institutions vs rationally designed institutions
-personal responsibility versus collective responsibility
-humans as inherently flawed vs humans as perfectable
Note sometimes these conflict. And no one is 100% conservative or liberal.
And applying these principles we can get policy positions:
Taxes?
Conservative- lower is better for more freedom
Liberal- a useful tool to promote equality
etc

Conservatives haven’t lived up to this in quite a while, considering the government have not shrunk under republican presidents, but gotten larger in different areas. But in theory I would agree with you.
First, conflating conservatives and republicans is wrong, and is the cause for your confusion. Republicans who don't promote, implement, and defend conservative policy and philosophy, aren't conservatives. There aren't very many in the legislature, and haven't been historically.

Conservative:
Smaller, less powerful, less centralized government.
Freedom of religion.
Adherence to and defense of the Constitution. All of it.
Dominant and overwhelming military strength.
Promoting freedom around the world.

The classic definition of conservative versus liberal is rooted in this: conservatives tend to uphold tradition and are slower to change/experiment. Liberals are more prone to experiment and favor change and are less bound to tradition.

Healthcare is not a right.
It absolutely is. Been to a hospital in the last 80 years? They have an obligation to treat you.
In the day in which the constitution was written, Barbers were still practicing surgery. Even some things must evolve with time. In modern society, I absolutely believe health insurance and healthcare is a right.

I seriously doubt the avg American on either side could give you five rights outlawed within, nor would they know they are the same document.

Republicans have these. Liberals do not.
Disagree. Many pretend to have these and condemn others for not publicly displaying theirs, but I don’t believe for one second one side is objectively more moral than the other. Case in point, the president.

Yes, they have to treat you, but if you don't have health insurance (which is a privilege, not a right) you will be paying out of the arse for it.
A half-arse intelligent person realizes the importance of getting health insurance, but that doesn't make it a right for everyone to have it. You have the option and privilege to either buy it, or seek employment that provides it. But one simply can't walk into a hospital and demand surgery if they aren't going to pay for it because it is a right. WE WOULD HAVE NO SURGEONS!

For Conservatives it’s:
1. Abortion
2. Taxes
3. National Security
4. Guns
5. Immigration
For Libs it’s:
1. Equal rights(gays/gender/religious)
2. Gov’t Health Care
3. Environment
4. Corporate regulation(Wall Street, banking)
5. Education (Financial Assistance)
Obviously it’s different for each individual so this is an extreme generalization

That's not personal freedom
If it was, then my 10 year old has more personal freedom than me because she doesn't worry about feeding herself, housing herself etc
Congrats. Your idea of freedom is to be treated like a child

Whether or not one works for a living,
Whether or not one believes the role of government is to take from producers to give to leeches who vote in blocs,
Individual freedom vs nanny state,
That's really all there is to it
