Separation church and state.
We are a civilized nation that makes laws (and enforces them) to protect ALL of our citizens.
Level playing fields for all.
Woman's right to choose.
The constitution is a living, breathing document.

There's really only one issue.

Should government be involved in your life more and make more decisions for you or should government be involved less in your life and make less decisions for you?

Nope. It’s an entitlement. Just like welfare.

You may absolutely believe in the tooth fairy, too, but that doesn’t make it so.

There are only two items anybody with any sense should worry about:

1. Economic policies
2. Foreign Policy

All of the social issues thrown around by both sides are nothing more than propaganda dumbed down to get the ignorant involved.

I don't really see Conservatism as being about "core issues". It's about a core philosophy that seeks Truth about the best way for man to organize his affairs.

*Unsentimental acknowledgement of Human Nature (The *Tragic View of Mankind).
*Liberty (over equality).
*Private Property (and how it relates to freedom).
*Results-oriented (over intention-oriented).
*Respect for human custom, tradition, ethics, etc. (over the passion of the day)

That's not personal freedom

If it was, then my 10 year old has more personal freedom than me because she doesn't worry about feeding herself, housing herself etc

that absolutely IS a personal freedom. even my private insurance was not tied to my job. that's how it should be here. I've known many people over the years who would have taken other jobs if they didn't have to worry about insurance issues.

this is a non sequitur. your 10 year old doesn't have a paycheck to deduct from. it's no different than social security, which would be fine if politicians didn't use it as their personal savings account.

It absolutely is. Been to a hospital in the last 80 years? They have an obligation to treat you.

In the day in which the constitution was written, Barbers were still practicing surgery. Even some things must evolve with time. In modern society, I absolutely believe health insurance and healthcare is a right.

You have zero right to another's labor and resources. We have a social compact that we'll provide food, shelter, etc. to those in need and have had it roughly since the Depression, but that is not a right. When resources become scarce (and they will, one day), no such right will exist within that social framework. Negative rights still can.

But to answer your question, I think the major difference between American liberals and conservatives and most differences in viewpoint flow from the contrast in belief about the perfectibility of man vs. man being inherently flawed.

5 core issues that make one liberal
Rule of law (vs. Rule of Trump 'deep state' horseshite)
Corporations are things, not people (vs. Citizens United 'corporations are people my friend')
Government manages what the private sector consistently screws up: national defense, public safety, prisons, education, healthcare, roads, ... (vs. inept privatization)
Gun rights for hunters (vs. gun rights for dipshits who fantasize about killing other people)
Minimize government control over others' bodies (vs. anti-marijuana, anti-lgbtq, anti-abortion, ...)
