...or just a high-energy talking point among the Coast-To-Coast AM/ tinfoil hat brigade?

It would seem to be extremely difficult to accomplish a successful such attack, even by a determined state actor.

I'd say yeah it's a real threat. Will it be used? Doubt it.

If an emp is used on that large of scale then we are already in the middle of some shite

It’s mutual assured destruction. It won’t happen.

I used to think it was a real possibility, but I have come to the conclusion in light of the last few years that it would be a bad tactic for the powers who could use it.

Reason being, it would destroy any ability to track and surveil people where the electrical grid was destroyed, and would actually empower resistance and counter ops due to the ability to move about and organize without fear of "Big Brother" tracking your every move.

Definitely possible, all the enemy has to do is detonate a nuke over the US high in the atmosphere. Thanks to submarines there would be a retaliation strike.

Outside of some military stuff not much of our stuff is protected from an emp. It would send us back to the stone-age for sure. Depending on how high the nuke was detonated it could get most of the country or parts of it.

No need for an EMP, our population has been defeated with a virus that has a 99.97% survival rate.

Why don’t you play this scenario out further??

How big of a target do we paint on our backs with the green new deal and pushing for all electric vehicles?? Picture the United States at some point in the not to distant future with electric vehicles ruling the road. Now let an Emp attack take out the power grid of the eastern seaboard. Transportation literally comes to a complete stop. Resources can’t be brought in from other areas because the transportation needed to move said resources also is dependent on electricity. The eastern seaboard would turn into a dead zone instantly.

Yes. A regional attack could be administered as a FF or terrorist attack.
I was half expecting one in Oct or Dec 2016

A coronal mass ejection causing an EMP like event is more likely.

A populated region impacted by a CME such as the Carrington Event would be devastating.

right it would be a targeted attack, then the rest of the country would be united and mad as hornets

america is too big for a comprehensive attack on the whole country, plus how wouid they deliver it? who would do it?

Wouldn't an EMP take out the electronics in most ICE vehicles and make them inoperable as well?

Not much different than gas vehicles. No electricity no pumping gas.

It's a real threat.

Thing is, the response to said threat is to launch all the missiles.

So yes it is, but also no, it's not really a threat.
