The new 87,000 agents will not be used to enforce tax laws.
They will tasked with finding and fighting domestic terrorist (aka Trump Voters).

I can understand the legislation though, and realize that doubling the size of the IRS while increasing the tax burden is a terrible thing for this country.
An interesting supplement to your observation is that peak IRS was under Reagan. He grew the IRS to right around 123,000 employees. LINK
Doubling current IRS would far exceed the Reagan years.

Yes, Associated Press is the most corrupt propaganda news out there. I am embarrassed to admit that also watch C-SPAN occasionally.
Can you please share with me your list of reliable news sources? I’m always looking to diversify my media sources.
I’m serious, please respond with a list of media sources that you follow.

None. Read propaganda from both sides and make your best decision.
Trusting an AP "fact checking" site is childish. Its an opinion piece written by a contract writer that examines the issue from one side.

There will not be 87,000 new agents. Book it. That’s a lie being told by politicians. Because they lie to fundraise.
They only have about 2-3 thousand armed agents every year and it’s been that way for decades.

IRS training to RAID Suburban Homes by Jjdoc
Wow! This must be the first time that IRS Special Agents have received this type of training, right?
I mean, how histrionic would this pearl-clutching thread be if this was training that had gone on under every administration for decades...

Educate ourselves with an opinion "fact-check" article...really?? AP is a left-wing bias Org and everyone knows it. Heck it's the same Org that started/required the whole capitalization of "black" and lowercase "white" when writing about race. I'd bet dollars to donuts their "fact-checking" team would find a way to dance around confirming if asked if men can get pregnant. Be better...

But those employees will not all be hired at the same time, they will not all be auditors and many will be replacing employees who are expected to quit or retire, experts and officials say.
The IRS currently has about 80,000 employees, including clerical workers, customer service representatives, enforcement officials, and others. The agency has lost roughly 50,000 employees over the past five years due to attrition, according to the IRS.
You do realize this content from your fact checking site is misleading, right?

who else did this before? Hummmmmmmmm
Not only the Nazis, but there were also those who promoted, no, insisted on this quite awhile ago - and as we see much of which is still developing, emerging today.
We allowed their foot in the door by accepting what is a decidedly marxist concept without resistance or pushback of any kind - a graduated income tax.
Now they're close to evolving into an armed State entity becoming even stronger and more able to be a part of the combined efforts that one day could help realize those aspirations/objectives.
But hear it from uncle Karl himself who said it best:
"A specter haunts Europe—the specter of communism....
These measures will naturally differ from country to country.
In the most advanced countries they will, generally speaking, take the following forms:
1. Expropriation of landed property, and the use of the
land rents to defray State expenditure.
2. A vigorously graduated income tax.
3. Abolition of the right of inheritance. (even taking away primogeniture which was basic to feudal society. Not even acknowledging the takeover/revolution by the bourgeoisie who made the right of inheritance to be available to all of the children.)
4. Confiscation of the property of all émigrés and rebels.
5. Centralization of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.
6. Centralization of the means of transport in the hands of the State.
7. Increase national factories and means of production, cultivation of uncultivated land, and improvement of cultivated land in accordance with a general plan.
8. Universal and equal obligation of work; organization
of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
9. Agriculture and urban industry to work hand-in-hand,
in such a way as, by degrees, to obliterate the
distinction between town and country.
10. Public and free education for all children.
Abolition of factory work for children in its present
form.
When in the course of social evolution, class distinctions have disappeared, and when all work of production has been concentrated into the hands of associated producers, public authority will lose its political character."
~ From Karl Marx's Manifesto of the Communist Party
Notice how so many of the tenets of his Manifesto seem tied to, even dependent upon, functions assigned to the IRS, even including inheritance of property.
But even he couldn't contemplate at the time an instrument of the State specific to forcibly separating people from their money that has all the characteristics of an armed enforcement mechanism to ensure the success of the oppression.
At least he didn't mention it in his writings.
But he must be smiling just about now anyway wherever he is.
