I could tell you one alter that would shock most people on this board, but I'm sworn to secrecy.

I’ve turned more liberal on a few issues; death penalty, endless wars, drug legalization, immigration (I still want illegal immigration stopped but I just think “build that wall” is pretty hateful,) and gay marriage from where I was 6 or 7 years ago.
You Texans and people from the three other border states who don't want a wall , should be forced to absorb the full cost of illegals.

Not legit as your description would have been "I seent it happen" vs "I've seen it happen" if you knew about country baws...

But I’m sure AF not voting for a democrat.
At 18, I was a dumb, uninformed hick and completely Jingo/Authoritarian Right — though I loathed self-righteous SoCons even then.
As I got older and more educated, I got more libertarian — even before I learned the term. By the time I graduated law school at 25, my politics were pretty much where they are now. A Center-Right libertarian who is nonetheless clearly Left of 95% of the posters on this forum.
Churchill was perhaps correct to some degree, but education plays a role as well. The greater your education, the less likely that you are Right of the median on this forum — or anywhere else.
Among Americans with advanced degrees, it would not surprise me if I charted in the Rightmost quartile.

It’s an age thing. People tend to make more money, acquire things through hard work, have houses, cars, etc... and pay taxes. You start noticing the dems and govt want in your pocket more and more. Too many people in govt want to tell you what to eat, what to drink, whether you should own a gun, etc etc etc. people moving toward the right over time... absolutely. Called self defense.

I didn’t say I don’t want a wall. I think it’s a sad necessity. I don’t stand by things like “build a wall” or “go back home” as language in the issue.
I.e. I’m completely morally against abortion and don’t support it in any shape, but I can understand why it is supported by some. I think people celebrating it as a great thing are hateful evil people.
You can support something without the hateful attitude.

That Churchill quote sounds great until you realize he was speaking in terms of UK political parties (the Liberals and the Conservatives), and not in terms of the modern American political understanding.
The Tories would be far left on this board

And that strange thing is that there have been several pretty smart people here that have drastically changed their political ideology from the left to more right leaning. In a couple of cases, very right leaning. But I have yet to notice anyone going from the right to a more left leaning position. If anyone has done that, I guess that I missed it.
Can someone point out a case where that has happened? I just find it kind of curious.

I use to speak really well when I was in grade school through high school because the teachers would ride our asses. Lol! I’ve been a turrible influence on my wife’s speech over the past +30 years and she works in an office administrative position, so sweetie I sincerely apologize.

I can understand and appreciate you. I am a retired Marine Sgt Major, I retired rather than taking orders to the Pentagon. I absolutely abhorred the place. It would have been a great honor and experience, but, well.....you know. Semper Fi!

So because you’re smarter than me you’re left of me.. got it

But the data is entirely clear. The more education one has, the further left you will find that person on a political spectrum. That is not raw “intelligence” or “smart.” It is education level.

Why would I talk to a leftist. They’re going to have a hateful attitude about everything I believe in.

Surely you understand this phenomenon when you compare a tenured English professor vs a small business owner.
