I go to Jordan every few years to swim in the dead sea and get salt and mud treatments at the spa's. It's great if you have Psoriasis, Eczema, Dermatitis, many other things. Also greatly reduced arthritis. People arrive in wheelchairs and in two weeks are on the dance floor. I have seen it happen.

So, it would be more real if there were less tourists?

I honestly don't get what your criteria are.

A. What makes a city fake? Are "real" cities one that grow on trees? EVERY city was nothing before it became something.

B. Built by slavery? Need I remind you the history of slavery and the place it had in the building of, oh...I don't know, nearly every major city across the globe.

You post inflammatory ideas in order to get attention, but all you wind-up doing is looking like an idiot. There's a reason as to why there's an anchored thread dedicated to making fun of you.

No. It would be more real if there were more industries besides tourism. The UAE’s main industries are tourism and petroleum. Both of those account for over 90% of their total GDP.

Dubai tries to paint this image of itself as a world class, bustling, futuristic city with so many huge skyscrapers. It tries to give off the impression that it has so many industries when in reality that’s not the case. That’s why it’s a “fake” city.

Damn son, did I offend you by criticizing your precious, perfect utopia called Dubai? Is that why you resorted to hurling insults because I struck a nerve? Sounds like you got some insecurity problems that you’re projecting.

Read up on the UAE’s history of slave labor and how they treat foreign migrants from Nepal and India. Many of them die in the UAE because they can’t afford to go back home. I’m pretty sure there aren’t any cities in the U.S. that I’m aware of that treat construction workers like that.

I can get killed here. I'm not going to be afraid to travel.

lol... Well, when one makes idiotic comments, then what does that make them?

I mean, you keep beating a dead drum. You keep saying it's nothing but O&G and tourism, which clearly shows that not only do you NOT know the main industries in the UAE...you didn't even do a quick look to what they are before doubling down.

You may want to read-up if you continue to do so. Tourism is behind a few others on the list, FYI...

For the record, I don’t care someone wants to go to Dubai. That’s their prerogative. I think it’s an overrated destination that markets itself as a flashy, extravagant city when in reality it’s all style no substance.

If wealthy Instagram influencers from Russia and the UK all of a sudden decided to stop coming to Dubai, that city would collapse in revenue.

not in Dubai, some places in Abu Dhabi but there was still plenty of bars and clubs

great beaches, cool scenery, amazing hospitality (although some of it feels forced due to workers not being Emirates on work visas) … Ferrari World, WB World, Atlantis, fun place.

Obviously this is a sad outlier situation, but I mean people just got shot and killed in a terrorist attack in Austin (tourist city) while at a bar … what’s really the difference?

Yeah, a good friend's daughter, son in law and young children live there. They've lived there for years. There are a lot of expats working there and have comfortable lives. And then what do you do when your country calls you home because of threat of danger or worse. I'm not sure the couple I'm describing do see the danger. But the State Department wants them out for their own good.

I know Dubai is probably the best place in all of the middle east, but it's still in an incredibly unstable region. I'll never understand the attraction to that region. I wouldn't be caught dead visiting the middle east.
I'm sure you go to Mexico without a thought, though.
