How does things stand with Congress? I know the Administration informed Congress the war is over. Does Congress consider the war over immediately after that notification or does a certain amount of time need to pass before Trump gets a fresh 60 days without needing Congressional approval?
Trump will have to do this by the book or the Dems and a few R’s will try to use it to impeach or prosecute him later along with other members of the administration like Vance or Rubio. Other Presidents may have done what they wanted in the past regarding military action but DJT will need to do it by the book.
Personally I don’t see why he can’t use the 2001 AUMF that was passed by Congress after 9/11 for this mission. Not long after the war started and the question of needing Congressional approval was being talked about I looked it up and it seemed to work very well for this action. It basically gives the President wide authority to go after Al Qaeda and affiliated groups or anyone that harbors them. Iran qualifies on both counts. Not only did they supply IED’s to AQ and the Taliban in Afghanistan. They did so with AQ in Iraq as well. Plus the current head of AQ was living in Iran when the war started. I don’t know his status as of today but he was living in Iran as of the start of the war. That covers Trump on Congressional approval as I see it. It’s certainly good enough for me anyway.

Obama did 7 months of military operations in Libya without asking the permission of Congress.
I suppose Trump could match that.

This along with the Patriot Act are why we are where we are today.

Well it like I said the Trump administration will need to follow the law to the letter. You know the Dems will be throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Trump to try and impeach him and other members of the administration should they win the midterms.

The war powers act is unconstitutional. Congress can declare or not declare war, they cannot tell cinc how to use the military. They can choose how and if to fund it, but they get no operational control

Bingo. They will just use stops and starts and new names.

Other than enriching themselves, putting on entertaining, sound-bite heavy hearings, going on TV opinion shows and running for re-election, does Congress ever really do much anything of actual substance?

I’m not so sure simply “informing” Congress determines the end of the war.
By the way, Iran, according to U.S. intelligence, retains its missile capability,
particularly adjacent to the Strait. Are we just going to leave? Or will Trump give Xi enough blowjobs to persuade him to stop supporting Iran and that changes the calculus?

Oh dear fricking god
There are actually people who think we should keep using the AUMF?

.....and you saw one of them with a dick in the mouth? You seem to have more information that you are not letting on.
