We are decoupling with China as we write. In 2018, when Trump imposed tariffs on China, the trade deficit with China was $418 billion. This year it will be less than $150 billion. Trump is decoupling as fast as he can.

THIS is what Trump is trying so hard to rectify. Multinational corporations sent sooooo much manufacturing to China (for increased profit)
and gutted the US and its middle class that we now depend on China(and others) to meet our needs.

I don’t think they will. China has a very poor consumer economy, and they depend heavily on exports. Invading Taiwan would force the entire west to boycott them. Their economy would take too big of a hit, imo.

I guess it depends on what your question loading means.
Nixon opened up trade with China in the early 70s. They became the 2nd largest economy in the world in 2010. Roughly 40 years later.
And they replaced Japan, whom we dropped nuclear weapons on and who bombed Pearl Harbor in WWII and whom we had been trading with since.
But none of that is the point. The point is that other countries have stuff they need from us and we have stuff we need from them and due to several factors it is more efficient (less costly) for them to get those things from us and for us to get those things from them.
You isolationists want for the whole country to just pull up the drawbridge and do the equivalent of moving out to Wyoming or Montana or someplace and building your own log cabin, growing and hunting your own food, making your own supplies, maybe going to town twighst a year to get coffee and salt and sugar, and otherwise being completely self sufficient.
We could do that, but our quality of life would suffer just like it would if you did that as an individual.
