The current income tax is a model-T tax system in the cyber age. It was created by people over 100 years ago who are long dead, but their dead hands still control us today.

Leftists are will use this as a reason to ban guns. Unfortunately those same idiots don’t understand what the constitution is vs tax code.

Yes eliminate all taxes and only a universal sales / use tax. Problem is the states and feds will be fighting over the money. I guess that’s not a bad thing.

It would make me care a little less about illegal immigration/ workers and cash money workers not paying their taxes.

How?

It doesn't eliminate food stamps or section 8.

I suppose they could start doing those "jobs Americans won't do." But, they'll still get their tens of thousands in benefits every year, sales tax or not.

It’s akin to a flat tax that penalizes spending. Those not spending would benefit.

what about also replacing or reducing property tax? I get that it funds schools and fire departments and all, but it just doesn’t seem right to have to keep paying out the arse year after year for a property you paid off years ago.

I'm fine with property tax because it still pays for those programs and utilities that you and every one else uses. The other option is those things get privatized and that very clearly did NOT work. Tried that one already.

Property tax is a scam. A simple man’s view

They love it because it's the most stable way to assess their revenue. Land values rarely go down and fluctuate as much as incomes or retail purchases.

Yet, the Scandinavian countries tax everyone. The poor pay a higher percentage than the wealthy.

Don’t you leftists want to be more like:

Sweden?

Been an advocate of the Fair Tax for over 20 years. This bill is introduced each year since 1999.

Everyone in the country will pay as the consume.

The Fair Tax plan has been proposed for years. It’s about time to have a real debate about. I think the Democrats are vile but would still support it they brought it forward.

The Fair Tax proposal has been around for a long time. I would support any politician who campaigns on it. It's an excellent proposal.

I think it could work if there was a standard surtax on high earners, like 20% on those that earn more than $500k per year.

The plan also does not tax essentials like food and provides support for those defined as lower income.

Actually no. It does. But everyone gets a Prebate to cover essentials. Federal taxes are currently paid on all food etc. So need to keep collecting it.

quote:

Exempting items by category is neither fair nor simple. Respected economists have shown that the wealthy spend much more on unprepared food, clothing, housing, and medical care than do the poor. Exempting these goods, as many state sales taxes do, actually gives the wealthy a disproportionate benefit. Also, today these purchases are not exempted from federal taxation. The purchase of food, clothing, and medical services is made from after-income-tax and after-payroll-tax dollars, while their purchase price hides the cost of corporate taxes and private sector compliance costs. Finally, exempting one product or service, but not another, opens the door to the army of lobbyists and special interest groups that plague and distort our taxation system today. Those who have the money will send lobbyists to Washington to obtain special tax breaks in their own self-interest. This process causes unfair and inefficient distortions in our economy and must be stopped.
