I'd be interested to hear everyone's opinions of a national sales tax...

... as a replacement for the federal income tax. Who would benefit the most? Who would be hurt the most? Overall a good idea or no?

At the point of a gun, if I were forced to choose a tax, this would be what I would choose, but I doubt very seriously that if it were implemented the government would actually get rid of the income tax.

I agree. My thinking is that it would also require a lot more creativity for Washington elites to cheat in that system than our current setup. I'm quite sure they'd figure out a way, but with the number of holes in our current system, they don't even have to try hard to get away with shenanigans

The current income tax is a model-T tax system in the cyber age.
It was created by people over 100 years ago who are long dead,
but their dead hands still control us today.
The income tax system has been patched thousands of times. The tax code is now so voluminous that no one person knows what is in it. It has become a weaponized tool used by the IRS to torture and abuse Americans.
We need to modernize the whole system and go to a simple and efficient system that real people can understand.
Abolish the income tax and implement the FairTax.

I agree with sales tax being probably the fairest way to go, but what about also replacing or reducing property tax? I get that it funds schools and fire departments and all, but it just doesn’t seem right to have to keep paying out the arse year after year for a property you paid off years ago. I think several things should be changed.

No one could hide from paying their fair share. Especially those who are breaking the law to earn a living.
The plan also does not tax essentials like food and provides support for those defined as lower income.
