Absolutely. I can see most of them feeling that way, going through the process properly and investing a bunch of money, hard work and time into it, just to see others blatantly skipping in line.

If you’re stupid but hard working, there’s a place for you in the US. I’d gladly trade these people for the stupid lazy people that we have.

Is your job not in demand in India? I have to imagine an educated person like yourself would be highly sought after back in India.

Tell this to the marxists who claim this country is shite....and I understand your struggle, a neighbor of mine from Canada is going through the same thing.....but imagine if we spent the resources trying to keep illegals out on getting the quality legal migrants in!

And this is why we don’t want government in charge of healthcare.

I mean, spending 16 years working a high value job and paying into Medicare and Social Security systems would seem to warrant permanent residence, no? That’s a fairly significant contribution to our society.

But to more precisely address your language, I’d say none of us, “natives” included, have a special “right” to be here. Ironically, maybe the only group exempt from that statement are the true, 100% blood native Americans. But beyond that, yea, I’d say nobody has a “special right” to be here.

Now, some of us were born profoundly lucky to have parents bring us into the world in the greatest civilization mankind has ever known. Lucky us. But most people weren’t so lucky. For the majority of people who weren’t born profoundly lucky, but who still want to contribute to this great societal experiment, there should be a viable path available for that to happen. And that path should be centered around steadfast, diligent, valuable work.

It sounds like the OP has definitively, unequivocally met that criteria. So if he doesn’t deserve to be here, I don’t know who does.

That’s because if you’re on a family visa, not a work visa, the green card process is relatively easy, and the wait times are short — sometimes as little as a few months.

That is adorable - 14 years here. 5 years waiting skilled worker route and 6 additional family (American spouse) until green card. 3 years plus after for citizenship. Worth the wait but yes challenging process

I volunteered through a program at church to help teach English as a second language. There were 4 people who were studying to take the citizenship test (all ended up passing, by the way!) They were some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. So humble and so proud to be in this country.

I had no idea the steps that you guys have to take to become citizens. I commend your patience and hard work. I will pray for this journey for you and your family. I truly hope citizenship is in your near future!

Everyone believes the system should be overhauled, it is a shame for you and your family. If everyone rioting on the news wanted to be American as much as this the country would be much better off.

On the bright side, the opportunities you'll have in life even if you have to leave have greatly increased after your experience here.

Your situation is why government should be in control of very little.

Inefficient bullshite. No incentive to be efficient.

Hope you can get your status cleared up and you can become an American citizen.

Do you play tennis by chance?

In the same field as you and I will say....Some of the brightest, most talented, thankful, and humble people I have ever worked with in my short 8 years were/are immigrants.
As a conservative I think most will agree we believe in merit based immigration. You are the type of people we support becoming citizens of this country. You are the people who come here, work hard, and live the American dream. You are the ones to admit and realize all that the U.S. has to offer.
As said, you're the people most conservatives want here, and the very type the left wing does not want here.

In my opinion
The left needs someone to pander to. They need someone to "take care of". They need the poor.
Your family I'd imagine does not fall into the category. The left likes to make you all think we hate any/all immigrants, but they have never and will never do anything for our class.

You have every damn right to be upset, mad, frustrated, etc. at this system.
It's filled with bureaucracy, red tape, and bullshyte. It needs to be revamped from the bottom to the top.

I hope you and your family make it, and one day find a way. I wish you the best of luck in this country for years to come.
Also please don't fall the MSM and left lies of all conservatives are Anti immigration.

I practice immigration law for people like you. I've been trying to explain these realities to people for years, but it's too complicated and will never be addressed in any detailed way by our politicians. We make the best people wait the longest and put more hurdles in front of them.

I hate the entire immigration system. I’d end it all for 15 years just to let our country heal before we take in a new stock.

Very good post. Yes the system is broken and
not getting better.

I have a few friends in similar situations and it’s terrible.

one specific guy even owned and ran several restaurants but was still told to pack up and go Bc he overstayed as he continued his appeals and they kept rescheduling the court date.

Luckily they requested and received another stay then the really old crazy judge retired, new guy came in and read it all and said wtf? Green card granted.

He got lucky.

The legal immigration system is indeed needlessly bureaucratic, cost prohibitive, and fuels illegal crossings.

which is exactly what we did in 1923 we essentially ended immigration for 40 years to allow the European immigrants to finally assimilate to deal with the exact same problems we're are dealing with today.
