It would be nice if such things didn't happen, but unfortunately, they do.

If a uniformed military did things like that (decapitation videos) to our troops, that military would be attached to a country, and we'd bomb that country back to the stone age. Terrorists aren't generally attached, and although we occasionally get pissed enough to bomb some government we suspect is behind it, most of the time we limit our responses to the groups. In order to find them, you do what you can do.

This is the problem. Those animals don't give a shite and take great pride in maiming POWs. They behead their prisoners, videotape it and brag about it.

I support killing of enemy combatants, but I don't support killing of American soldiers.

The assumption that not doing a certain action will result in the enemy deciding not to do it as well isn't based on anything substantial and is an emotionally backed opinion.

The only actions that will prevent another entity from taking an action are threats of total destruction (which is why nukes actual prevent wars) or an elevated response which the other side fears.

Otherwise, all is fair in love and war.

You're right, the Japs and Germans never totured none of our prisoners because we treated their POW's humanely.
