instead of the death penalty. True justice was not served and I weep for the white race.

In Louisiana, it’s an automatic life sentence. Lucky he was in Texas.

Death penalty was never on the table as he was 17 when this happened. 35 years is a joke though.

The guilty verdict alone was almost a surprise..... Facts be damned.

Once the plea deal was refused, life should have been the verdict!

35 years in prison is a pretty rough ride for a young man, tbh…

He'll be someone's bitch for 17 yrs.

It's right in line with the national average for murder.
Why is it a joke?
Are you saying that this case warranted a higher than average sentence, or are you saying that the average is low?
BTW, less than 2% of murderers commit homicide again after being released. It's one of the lowest crimes that people re-commit.

I think he'll get the justice he deserves in prison.

It's because he is a 17 years old black young adult who was too stupid to get an ID and too stupid to determine if murdering someone is illegal or not

Two major groups in prison. White supremacists and gangs. He is in for a rough sentence.

35 years in Huntsville (or even 17) will be no picnic

Why do you think that? He’ll probably be seen as hero with the groups that he’ll be hanging out with.

Recidivism for any crime after serving for murder is over 40% on average. Blacks have a higher than average recidivism rate though. He might not go back for murder but there's a strong chance he'll go back in for something.

Not a rough enough ride iyam. He intentionally took another young mans life so he should have to give up his own.

A young man getting stabbed to death is a much worse ride, though. I think 35 years is the lower end of what is reasonable. I wish it had been 50 years. That would have kept him in jail until at least 43, which is statistically past the point of violent recidivism.

I would guess a large part of this is most of the time when a murderer is released, he is too old or sick to be a serious threat to society. The number of murderers who are released from prison before the age of 40 like this little piece of shite will be (on parole) is very, very small.

Not every case is a life sentence/death penalty case. Instead in crying in your beer you should be happy. He got the harshest amount of time that was realistically going to happen.
If you’re of the opinion that our laws don’t punish murderers enough, I get it and won’t argue that. But in the reality that we live in this was a win.
