With WaPo saying Giuliani is joining Trump's team to assist in closing the Mueller probe, and Bloomberg confirming Trump isn't a target of the Cohen investigation either, it sounds more likely that the always-likely conclusion is coming:

This was all covered a couple of weeks ago when it was reported Mueller himself told Trump's lawyers that Trump was a subject but not a target.
If you are a target, that means prosecutors are gathering information with the intention of bringing charges against you.
If you are a subject, that means that your conduct is being investigated and there has not yet been a determination regarding whether or not to bring bring charges against you.
Mueller told Trump's lawyers that he is a subject of the investigation. All this means is that that hasn't changed yet.

the most likely conclusion to all this was always when investigating trumps dealing with russia, you find shady and possible illegal business deals with russia
I would imagine trumps greatest threat are things like fraud and tax evasion rather than something like teaming up with wikileaks regarding the email hack

This may be their way of trying to make Cohen think Trump is willing to throw him under the bus and it keeps Rosenstein and Mueller employed. I'm not buying it.

It won’t be wrapped up until after the midterms at which point we will find out that it was basically a nothing burger with regards to Trump.

I never thought that Trump would ultimately be indicted. Kushner yes. A word of caution is that Clinton's special prosecutor was about Whitewater and not lying about a little blue dress which is what ultimately led to his impeachment. The reason that Trump is freaked out on the FBI and Cohen is that he has enough mud on Trump on corruption, tax evasion, paying off hookers, oligarch money, etc. that could expose Trump badly. If Cohen ultimately faces 20 years in the pen, then he just might want to get arse-raped when he was following orders from the Don. Not the target could quickly change if the Cohen tapes reveal some stuff.
