It started in 1972, when the McGovern wing/Cultural Marxists began taling over the party apparatus
Under Clinton this wing got its first real taste of power
By 2008 they had taken over the party completely, along w/academia & the news media.
Eventually they would take control of Wall St via DEI, leaving only the military as the last bastion of opposition
Controlling so much of the culture led them to live inside a bubble where everyone thinks like they do.
The Right is able to avoid this b/c if you consume any bit of mainstream culture, you are forced to see the opposition.

They believe stupid polls that oversampled progtards. They’ve convinced themselves that women are ok with men in our bathrooms/ locker rooms/ changing rooms/ sports. We are not. The majority of white women voted against this stupidity.
The majority of white women know we have human worth and dignity beyond our reproductive parts and did not fall for the lie that an executive order could return RvW (that is literally impossible for the executive branch, never mind that it’s murdering babies).
As a white woman, I am super happy with the outcome of this election. Meet me at a metaphorical Sonic. I will murder you with words.

That seems pretty obvious to me. That was to try to hang onto the minority vote, to avoid offending them.
And look, here's the thing...if inflation hadn't been so bad that the media couldn't gaslight everyone about the economy, they'd probably have gotten away with all of that stuff. So the question isn't why have the Democrats gone so far over the edge—I know the answer to that question.
The real question is why do things have to get so bad before enough people stop following them off the cliff before doing something about it?
Why do so many people accept the insanity?

There are absolutely plenty of older/boomer union types out there who don’t consume much media other than some network news that still think the democrat party is the party of the working class. They don’t live in the online world.
I’ve had many of these as patients over years. For example they’ll decry the Floyd riots and then 5 mins later talk about how they have to get Trump out of office

The government dependent lemmings are just along for the ride.
The problem for the Democrats: their policies created a highly inflationary economy which hurt their constituents at the grocery store and beyond so some of the rubber stamp Democrats finally woke up and rebelled for this election.
Republicans need to emphasize the message that many Democrat voters have been living in high crime and poor living conditions for decades under Democrat rule. It's time for these people to wake up and smell the roses.

They require their candidates to check 20 boxes before supporting them.
The moderate requires far fewer. But the Democrat needs the foaming at the mouth radical to win elections.
Additionally, because so much of their support originates in academia, many of their ideas are too stupid for anyone but those in academia to believe.

Eventually you cannibalize the whole idea of what it possibly means to be “moderate.” It almost seem that this is what they’ve done.
