Hell. If politicians continue to be useless, may as well just select some late 20s, early 30s beautiful women who have big titties to be our representatives.

We'd still have the frustration of nothing being done, but at least we'd have some eye candy to look at.

Who's on his list to pick the winners then?

I am also ok leaving it the way it is. Ultimately the people still decide either way.

Do they really? I have my doubts.

I’d much rather have my senator beholden to the political winds of Louisiana than those of DC.

The 17th amendment is one of the worst mistakes this country ever made.

We effectively have no true senate. Just a second house if reps with longer term of office.

Everyone I think would agree with this. The problem is when or before they arrive in dc they are bought and paid for. Unfortunately, all elected officials at the fed level are either bought or black mailed into moving the agenda of destroying the country. The handful that are not are not needed as they only need a simple majority for most things. The deep state never wants a super majority from either party because it would be much more difficult and extremely pricey to buy the legislation that they want. Look the over whelming majority of Americans want the Save act. Could you imagine the outrage when a super majority republican Congress did not pass it? Now we have a majority but they blame it on anything but themselves. What kills me is that dem voters want it at a 70% rate but where is the outrage when their elected officials vote 100% against it. There is none because they know how bad of a landslide to the red it would be. We are screwed.

The senators were supposed to be selected by state legislatures to represent the states as, for lack of a better term "ambassadors" for the state governments.

the foot-dragging issue which caused the 17th to happen in the first place

That wasn't the cause of the 17th Amendment, it was only used as an excuse in order to further degrade the sovereignty of the States and strengthen a central government in DC. (I say "central" because it is no longer a "federal" government whose power originates from the States and the People, but rather it allows the states and the people to have only the authority it grants them - in complete opposition to the Constitution.)

Massie forgets an important fact; the Founding Fathers wanted Senators to be selected by men who were property owners. I’d take that deal.

I’m with you 100%, but we both know the most qualified individuals will not be selected. Just like with judges, those appointed will be the ones that owe the most “favors” and have the most dirt on them, so that they are easily controllable.

I just believe the elected officials who make that decision are far more intelligent, as a group, than the citizenry.

It also gets the money out of the decision. MSM will not take it lying down. They love them some campaign revenue.
