Embarrassed about the state of our current military?

I mean the Afghan debacle where they screwed up the withdrawal. Now Miley said Kiev would fall within 3 days. Coupled with lowering standards to allow females in combat arms and the transgenders…..I mean the military when I was in would not handle an embarrassment like Afghanistan without heads rolling. And if it didn’t further the military’s mission of prosecuting the Nations campaigns it had no place in the service. Now it’s an accept no responsibility social experiment!

I’m extraordinarily thankful I stuck to my plan of only doing my 4 years and getting out to make use of the post 9/11 GI Bill. I did deployments to both Afghanistan and Iraq in it’s earlier days from ages 17-21. It was more or less decentralized Wild West getting shite done at whatever cost, then later morphed into this sort of soft as charmin hearts and minds bullshite occupy forever campaign, to its current state which is just a downright embarrassment.

This is why politicians are creaming their pants about Ukraine. It's the new endless money pit.

Did my time in Hell and Damn proud of it. After 48+ years still miss it at times. However, there is no way I would serve today, especially how political the military upper brass has become.

When I went through Marine Corps training in 1968 at Parris Island SC they did not give a damn what my political or gender leanings were, only that I was the very best elite killing machine the Corps had to offer!

Oohrah!!!

I’m glad I got out before they started doing the sensitivity training bs.

The Pentagon and the woke leadership of the military academies need a cleansing

You do know North Vietnam took over after the US pulled out back then. Did you serve in the 1940's?

You can hang that on the politicians, just like Afghanistan.

US Army, Retired… 1992.

Glad I did it and glad I’m out. The military has changed so much… for the worse. Continues to be a social experiment. /smdh

Because we let them. After Tet in 1968, the viet cong were defeated and obliterated. The NVA did not launch a new major offensive until after the US army infantry maneuver battalions and the marine corps regiments were removed. From 1969 to 1970 (while I was there) we defeated them on the ground every time the NVA tried anything and in a major way. In April of 1972 after most all American combat arms units left, the NVA launched a major offensive all over the country and were fought to a standstill by the Army of the Republic of Vietnam and obliterated by American air support. It took three more years for Hanoi to regroup and when in 1975 they launched the main final effort, there was no longer any American air support or military supplies to oppose them. That is the historical truth and anything else you’ve ever read or been taught is false.

It's not just the military, but the nation's prerogatives as a whole. IMO, success starts at the individual level, and no detail is too small. That's not to say that everyone should cultivate a Type-A personality, but I just think we should ask everyone to take a look in the mirror and fix that person before we try to fix everyone else.

You do realize that we told going through IOC that we would never allow that embarrassment to happen again. So glad we had hard-asses and not the limp dick leadership they have now. I mean Miley is a total PoS!

I'm embarrassed about the state of the whole dam country.

Sometimes I think I wasted my time.

So you don't know the history of that war.

News break: We won it. The politicians took over and fricked it all up. They were about to wave the white flag when our president pulled a Biden/Afg. move and pulled us out. In spite of the president our guys had won even with the lack of support. They threw in the towel and just like that all our guys had lost their lives for nothing. And I don't want to get in to what that meant to the S. Vietnamese left behind.

I’m proud that I honorably served in the Army. (1992-2000) My dad was also a Soldier that honorably served in Vietnam. However, I would discourage my 3 sons from serving in the current US Military. Wokeness everywhere plus, it seems to be an age of Enlightenment… The internet and etc let’s us see the big picture better than ever. The vail is lifted and we see these wars and rumors of wars for what they are. Profit, greed, money laundering, IMC, etc. I will defend the the homeland on my soil if needed.

James Lindsay has a podcast titled Enlightenment 2.0 on YouTube. It’s really good and you should check it out if that’s not already where you got the idea from.
