Dems will gain seats in the Texas delegation in 2026

Dems threatening to boycott the redistricting vote
Because the Democrats actually listen to their constituents and recognize this wholly unorthodox off-season redistricting attempt for what it is: a naked power grab by the GOP in an attempt to gain power in areas they do not presently claim. Hopefully they'll remain out of state for the remainder of the session.

Don't you think Republicans trying to grab more power for the GOP is them listening to their constituents? I can't imagine many Republicans object to what the party is trying to do.

Correct—and let’s not pretend Tarzana is some beacon of reason or objectivity. Never has been, never will. He copy and pastes Leftist talking points straight from Reddit.

I do not want gerrymandering in any fashion - if they just get rid of the purposefully designed "majority black" districts I'll be happy -
I do NOT want them to gerrymander to create 'safe' GOP districts - I want that madness STOPPED in both directions.
I want gerrymandering to be something school kids read about in history books.

I’m not sure how anyone could have paid attention the last 10 years and not come to the realization that there’s nothing the democrats won’t do to acquire power. You would be stupid to not gerrymander in your favor to the extent possible. It will be used against you wherever possible.
They would gerrymander texas blue tomorrow if they had the votes to do so.

Jasmine Crotch Itch is planning on running to be a Senator. From what I have seen. Republicans can gain 5 extra seats. All thanks to Biden. Democrats do something to rig the system and then turn Pikachu face when Republicans turn around and use the can of worms that Democrats opened.

The danger in gerrymandering is that if there is a shift in voter turnout or voting habits the dominant party runs the risk of losing more seats than they normally would because their expected advantage in each individual district is lower.
This is exactly right. If the the voters were “Trump” voters instead of actual Republican voters (the Hispanic vote in Texas for example), this could backfire. The other concern is the incumbents with currently large margins have probably been mailing it in wrt campaigning. They could run into issues in a tight race.

I think they are targeting Colin Alreds former Dallas district.quote:I’ll miss her soundbites. You can’t buy that kind of negative advertising
Hopefully that ghetto bitch Jasmine is out.
Though even if Crockett wins she may not get as much, so she may curb it down enough to try to keep it every 2yrs. But she wants to win a Senate seat, so it'll be interesting to see how she'll respond and if she decides to run for the cornyn Senate seat.

wholly unorthodox off-season redistricting
And when IS the season for illegally drawn districts?

I think he’s saying (correctly) nobody should be able to do it.
Long term, It’s only going to breed more extremism and less democracy.

I've read the remaining blue districts will be much, much lockdown bluer. But there will be less blue districts. This is to protect DJT against rampaging democrats after the 2026 election. While it will be nice that they remain that way going forward, this is all about DJT.
Democrats in the House will have to run against each other. And I also read this morning that Jasmine's district is gone (when it happens). We get publicly savvy democrats who know how to get media attention and likes despite their constituent loving idiocy. And they are almost tyrannical. I'm all for this re-districting.
I read Missouri is also considering it. And Ohio is also doing it.

Go back look at the new cd-9 look at the presidential election results and get back to me

Shocking tarzana a self described expert who hates Trump doesnt know what he's talking about
TX-09: Al Green
Current map: 71-27 Harris (2024), 76-23 Biden (2020)
New map: 57-42 Trump (2024), 52-47 Trump (2020)
The 9th District, based in the south-central part of Harris County—home of Houston—would be altered to an almost unrecognizable degree: Just 3% of residents in the revamped version live in the current district, which is home to roughly equal numbers of Black and Latino residents (around 40% each).
The transmogrified district would instead teleport to the eastern reaches of Harris County, taking in many deep-red and GOP-trending areas. It would also become majority Latino while losing most of its Black population. But even though just a quarter of the district would be white, its typically low Latino turnout would push it firmly into Trump's column.
The end result would be an eye-popping net swing of almost 60 points when looking at the most recent presidential election—by far the largest anywhere on the new map.

quote:By law, redistricting is limited to once every 10 years based on the updated census data.
where it is ok to gerrymander congressional districts every election cycle,
The redistricting in Texas and a few other states is the result of the Supreme Court's decision that it is unconstitutional for congressional districts be based upon the racial makeup of the district.
So states are redistricting their congressional districts to get constitutional for the 2026 elections.
Their previous (current) districts were drawn to guarantee maximum minority representation, such as for Louisiana's 5th district which got Cleo Fields elected and got Garrett Graves' district torn apart.
A case (Louisiana v. Callais) is expected to be heard in the upcoming SC session to determine if the Louisiana districts constitute unconstitutional racial gerrymandering.

Do states do this all the time in a minor way; therefore, not bringing attention to i?. I have lived in the same house in a California for 30 years. Our district was solidly Republican for the first 15 years or so as we were combined the rural area around us. Eventually they started putting us in a district with the city and we were a 50/50 district that had a Republican, then a moderate Democrat. Now they moved the district again and we are in an absolute Democrat district.

Either prompted by court decisions or state legislative actions even congressional lines can be altered in periods not following the census
it's not common but it happens often enough
