You know there are websites that track this stuff, right?

Executive Orders started with Washington. They are just directives to Federal Agencies that are part of the Executive branch.

They were not used extensively until the Civil War and reconstruction. Lincoln, Johnson and Grant issued dozens per year. In the early 20th Century, Teddy Roosevelt, Wilson, and FDR all issued thousands of them (Wilson and FDR had World Wars to manage)

They became less popular after WWII, with Presidents issuing just 60 or so per year. Then Ford issued 169 EOs in just 2.5 years, and Carter issued 320 in just 4 years.

EOs became much less popular after that, until Trump ratcheted the count up to 55 per year.

I hope this does not become the new trend, with an incoming President undoing the EOs of his predecessor in the first week. The EOs related to COVID response will become moot at some point. The others should eventually be the subject of legislation, or else they will be easily reversed by the next guy.

Exactly.

One can agree with the substance of the agenda of the new administration or disagree with it. Most here will obviously disagree.

But this is simply an indication of an administration that took office PREPARED to move forward with its agenda, as compared to multiple months of fumbling with no obvious plan or purpose.

The day one was issued and Congress didn’t challenge it. Checks and balances began to die.

Actually, any US citizen affected by those EOs could have sued and run the case to the SCOTUS. Best I can tell, no one has ever done that and the SCOTUS has never ruled.

How did it come to pass that America now only remains functioning due to omnibus bills?

Same answer...

Because we allowed it, and watched our freedom's slowly erode away while sitting on our asses.

Now, they're going for the kill shot, and there's nothing we can, or WILL, do about it.

We deserve this, and it pains me to say that.

The only people lazier than our general public are our elected congressman. That’s how. We deserve everything coming our way as a nation. We asked for it.

Clinton, Bush, and Obama all used Executive orders extensively. Bush has the most, though quantity doesn't really mean much. Obama's were likely the most impactful to policy.

Clinton used EO 364 times. Bush used them 291 times. Trump Used then 220 times in four years.

Executive orders are meant to be "Here's how we're going to operate or enact this law."

They can't (technically) just invent things they haven't been given the authority to do.

The number isn't the thing. Whether they're unlawful or unconstitutional or ill advised is what I'm concerned about.

George Washington issued executive orders. They've been around a long time.

They technically only apply to the executive branch...

You and I can tell them to FO...and Congress or the states are supposed to challenge these things...

when you know the fbi and the cia will not stop your coup of the sitting president through a rigged election, you tend to get your ducks in a row so you can hit the ground running. They were like kids on christmas eve....super excited and couldn't wait so they made those christmas lists early!

Executive orders are authorized in the constitution under the provision that the laws be “faithfully executed.”

The idea being that the executive branch can use them to make sure that laws are enforced.

However, congress has let presidents run amok with executive orders. Pussies.
