House passes stock trading ban bill

The lower chamber voted 232-198 to pass the bill, introduced by House Administration Committee Chair Bryan Steil (R-Wis.). Thirteen Democrats joined all Republicans in voting for the bill.
The bill would allow members of Congress, their spouses and dependent children to hold onto stocks they already own but prevent them from buying new ones. It also requires them to file a public notice with the clerk of the House at least seven days before they sell an existing stock.

Or make them defend voting against a bill that prevents rich politicians from getting richer because they’re on the wrong side of a 90/10-80/20 issue on voter ID. I imagine that won’t play well with their “rich people are evil” base.

It's a bullshite law that once again separates congress from everyone else.
The GOP-led Stop Insider Trading Act (passed by the House in July 2026) imposes a penalty of $2,000 or 10% of the value of the prohibited transaction (whichever is greater) for violations of congressional stock trading and disclosure rules.
So they can pay a 10% premium and it's legal to trade on inside information. No jail time? There are Insider Trading laws on the books that are enforced by the SEC. They all need to be bound to those laws like the rest of us.

Just an FYI. This bill does not stop politicians from getting rich off of stocks I am pretty sure they have friends and family that will miraculously start quadrupling their net worth each quarter as soon as this passes.

Sounds good, but forgive my skepticism... I'm sure there is some loop hole which allows those corrupt fricks to continue manipulating their office. I hope I'm wrong.....

Lipstick on a pig. I remember them doing this 20 years ago. No way they don’t use inside information to make bucks. Just a matter of hiding it. The Biden’s and Pelosi’s are masters at this.
