I never cared that they made money off stocks. Whatever. You cannot stop insider trading no matter what you do.

I care more that we pay them a pension and pay for their healthcare for life

I'm all for a salary while they serve but they should not get this for life once elected.

Both sides are profiting off of insider info

It’s getting even more perverse

Politicians are actually trying to cash in on their tweets. Wall Street firms have been working with politicians to arrange payment for “tweets” before they are actually released so that they can line up trades before the general public knows….

Something’s gotta give here

they can pay a 10% premium and it's legal to trade on inside information.

The 10% would be in addition to divestment of profit.

The fee must equal (1) the greater of $2,000 or 10% of the transaction value, and (2) any net gain realized from the transaction during a specified period.

Some politicians have trading done through other vehicles that are hard to identify.

There has even been info leaked to foreign interests so they can profit on insider info

Their base will very understandably say “well that sucks but I get it.”

Well, sure. Not every Dem voter will be turned off. Some absolutely are blue no matter who but you don't need to make them completely implode. Damaging voter enthusiasm can play a big piece as well.

That's insider trading. Those people don't have the cover that legislators do.
