How about installing the air conditioning and running them down to 62 degrees every night and don't give them blankets.

I tend to agree but holy Batman, life sentence and 100 degrees...

The guards making 50k to be in those hell holes...and to deal with psychopaths.. while burning at work..

I'd be cool (get it...get it) with 80 degrees...just for the poor guards. Unless they have AC rooms to retreat too.

I believe they do this to quell tense situations. Cranking it down to 50 will put them all in bed under their blankets.

And a big point that's being missed here is that AC, and especially cable TV, are things that can be taken away to correct behavior. Just like correcting a child, the easiest way is to take away something they like. But there has to be something to take away. So those things aren't a "right", they're an effective tool for maintaining order.

So before A/C started becoming common in the 1950s, all U.S. prisoners were held in Unconstitutional conditions?

Maybe they were built with better ventilation.

shitty conditions have existed forever in prisons. It doesn't detour crime. one day this country will take a hard look at how we handle our prison systems. 82% reoffend. Most states have stripped education and other programs aimed to help people not re-offend.

Yeah, prison should be like an all inclusive resort

No they do not have it across the board. Jail should be mandatory 40hour hard labor all week per inmate they should not be rotting in jail we can use that labor force

When the culture that is responsible for >50% of violent crime in this country views doing prison time as a badge of honor, nothing can be done to help them. Just have to make prison as miserable as possible.

Our prison inmates should be spending 12 hours a day turning big rocks into little rocks.

Including the ones that are just there waiting for trial and can't afford bail? Did you mean to say Prison should be that way and not jail? Jail is where you go when you await trial or for short sentences. Prison is where you go when you're convicted and have an actual substantial prison.

Refusing to work in prisons generally counts as insubordination and would extend their sentence as well as cost them any good time. I say generally because obviously there's people who can't physically work because they're crippled or whatever, but I had an inmate who ate his gun and survived we still put his arse to work every day

Every jail that I’ve been in has always been cold as hell.. I thought it was because it kept the inmates docile.

Except during Hurricane Rita. We lost power for several days and ran on backup generatorss. It was hot as hell and definitely caused both tempers to rise significantly along with the temperatures.

I say jail too but I’m not positive. I feel like jail is the worst guys just don’t give a shite and have to spend a weekend in jail every few months. Put em to work
