Air conditioning it's exactly the same as an entire amendment!

I think I see the Judge desired play here. By ruling it unconstitutional and not requiring to install AC, the judge is likely laying the groundwork for prisoners to file the lawsuit based on this judge ruling. The judge just kicked the can down the road and now inmates and their attorneys are going to try to get rich filing lawsuits against the state.

Do they still have chain gangs and prisoners cleaning up roadsides in the south? Summer in the south may just generally be unconstitutional. May have to air condition the Earth.

The US Constitution was ratified in 1788.

Modern air conditioning was invented in 1902.

A federal judge is now looking into prison TVs. Reports show that most prison TVs only display up to 720p. This extremely standard quality is plainly unconstitutional treatment of the most vulnerable and marginalized individuals. It is important to remember that this is a cruel and unusual punishment, particularly as summers continue to get warmer due to climate change.

Florida is under a Federal Court order to install AC in the prison housing units.

One point to make is that staff also have to endure the extreme heat.

I work in the CJ field and have been in many prisons. It’s unreal how hot these places become in the summertime. I honestly don’t see how anybody can stand it.

They ought to just do away with the buildings and set up tent cities like the guy in Arizona.

BTW, our military troops lived in some of the most inhospitable conditions all over the world in tents.

shitty conditions have existed forever in prisons. It doesn't detour crime. one day this country will take a hard look at how we handle our prison systems. 82% reoffend. Most states have stripped education and other programs aimed to help people not re-offend.

Crime and doing time has always been around always will be. Screw them if they get hot, cold whatever. Going to jail isn’t a vacation.

The true issue with all this starts at home…

ETA: There is no one size fits all solution. Should we just give up and let people do whatever they want?

Ah, you're one of the folks who don't really understand the Constitution, my bad for not getting that.

A quick rundown is that Amendments are changes to the Constitution, and the language in them is what decides what is now considered Constitutional. If the lack of AC is deemed to be "cruel and unusual punshment" under the 8th Amendment by the courts, then yes, AC is absolutely the same as "an entire amendment". Prisoners would then have the same constitutional right to AC as you or I would to bear arms.

The state should jump right in this. Just as soon as the fix literally every other problem first.

“Most marginalized and vulnerable”

Thanks captain obvious.

So why if that were the case did the Judge not require AC?
