They first claimed 500 hours.

With more than 450 hours of flight time, Lobach earned certification as a pilot-in-command after extensive testing by the most senior and experienced pilots in her battalion. She was also a certified victim advocate for the Army Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Program.

The idiots that allowed helicopters anywhere near that airport or the flight paths juiced the odds of this kind of thing happening.

I agree, but they had been doing it for years with out incident.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14653321/report-mistake-black-hawk-collide-jet.html
Daily Mail has full story and it's damning to Lobach.
quote:
Just 15 seconds before colliding with the commercial airplane, air traffic control told Lobach and Eaves to turn left, but she did not do so.
Seconds before impact, co-pilot Eaves then turned to Lobach in the cockpit and told her that air traffic control wanted her to turn left. She still did not do so.
Investigators may never know why Lobach did not change course that day.
quote:
The report stated: 'The Black Hawk was 15 seconds away from crossing paths with the jet. Warrant Officer Eaves then turned his attention to Captain Lobach. He told her he believed that air traffic control wanted them to turn left, toward the east river bank.'
If she had turned left, it 'would have opened up more space between the helicopter and Flight 5342,' it added.
Instead, 67 people - everyone aboard the plane and helicopter - perished.

They need to release the transcripts and / or recording. Everything else is spin.

Why did they wait for this to come out?

I also wonder about their role as uber driver black helo taxis for the Generals and big shots that don't like DC traffic?

I guessing this was a suicide.
Certainly seems intentional. Now that we know they were aware of the correct plane, she was instructed where to go, and still flew straight into it, not sure how there is any other conclusion than intentional.
I am sure it will still be labeled an accident to make it less complicated, but I don't see how anybody could believe that at this point.

Even Evans interpreted Pass Behind as to turn left.

quote:
Cockpit voice recordings indicate that the essence of the controller’s command — to “pass behind” — might not have been heard by the Black Hawk crew, perhaps because of a second bleep-out.
Some former military pilots said that by issuing a proactive command to pass behind the jet, the controller was going above and beyond his obligations, especially under see-and-avoid conditions, and that an experienced Black Hawk crew should have known what to do without help.
quote:
Two seconds after the controller’s cut out instruction about passing behind the jet, Warrant Officer Eaves replied, affirming for the second time that the Black Hawk saw the traffic. “PAT two-five has the aircraft in sight. Request visual separation,” he said.
“Vis sep approved,” the controller replied.
It was their last communication.

Turning left would have opened up more space between the helicopter and Flight 5342, which was heading for Runway 33 at an altitude of roughly 300 feet.
She did not turn left.

quote:The report said they likely didn't hear "pass behind", so how would he infer that. Evans told ARC that he had the jet in sight and requested visual separation, which means the helicopter was responsible.
Even Evans interpreted Pass Behind as to turn left.
In any event, Evans (supposedly) said that he believed that ATC wanted them to turn left. Clearly they had no idea. Even if a left turn was initiated with roughly 9 seconds before impact, they almost definitely hit the jet at that point.
As I said earlier, I don't know what the source is for Evans making that comment. Pretty sure it wasn't in the NTSB presser, and it definitely wasn't in the ATC recording.

Would have been the chopper black box.
Either way flying visual separation Evans made the right call.
Lobach didn't listen.
She should not have been at the controls that night.
