Hegseth plainly lays out the new expectations of NATO members. Using more sensitive verbiage towards the NATO members than they deserve, calls them out as being lazy, weak, and sluggards. Taking advantage of the US to provide for their security since WWII.
Hegseth makes it very clear, those days are over.

This video features remarks by U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth at a NATO Defense Ministers meeting in Brussels. The address focuses on his vision for "NATO 3.0," a strategy aimed at restructuring the alliance to return to its original core purpose as a strong, military-focused organization.

Key Themes and Highlights:

The Concept of NATO 3.0 (3:16 - 3:45): Hegseth describes this as a transformation back to "NATO 1.0," where European allies take the lead in their own conventional defense rather than relying on the United States as a dependency. He emphasizes a focus on "hard power" and "real deterrence."
Critique of NATO 2.0 (5:04 - 5:53): He characterizes the post-Cold War era as a period where the alliance drifted toward "distraction" (citing climate change and gender equity policies) and became an era of "free riding" and deindustrialization.
Defense Spending and Responsibilities (6:52 - 7:40, 12:31 - 13:00): Hegseth highlights the new standard of 5% of GDP for defense spending. He announces that future U.S. dues will be contingent on other countries meeting their defense targets, framing NATO as a "two-way street."
NATO 3.0 Review (11:29 - 13:30): He announces a six-month Department of War review of America's force posture and basing in Europe to ensure the alliance moves toward European leadership in defense.
Frustration with Recent Cooperation (9:32 - 10:40): Hegseth expresses sharp criticism of allies who denied the U.S. access, basing, or overflight for operations in the Middle East, calling the lack of support "shameful."

Contextual Note: The meeting, chaired by the NATO Secretary General, also addresses ongoing support for Ukraine through the "Pearl initiative" and progress on preventing Iranian nuclear advancement.

I totally agree. 1000%. But, you and I aren't in the position to set world policy.
This is the next best thing. I suppose....

The Iran event has solidified my opinion on NATO. Time for talk is over. Pull out, bring the equipment home, have the captain hang a three-finger salute as he closes the hatch on the last flight out.
