Yes. And by their doing, not mine.
I always strive to keep an open line of civil political discourse, but with liberal family members it has been completely impossible since about 2012. Between then and 2020, they became completely unhinged and refuse any and all facts. They resort to screaming and "literally shaking" any time the America First movement or Trump are defended in any way.
Honestly it was the Corrvid that put them over the edge. These few liberal family members had always been very leftist, but once they went full-blown Masked Covidian Cultist, they began to view us as subhuman because we wouldn't mask up or take unproven and experimental mRNA gene manipulation therapy shots. Yes, I had an aunt whom I love very much actually call me "a selfish and heartless neanderthal" (verbatim).
We see each other a couple times a year now and they always say some crap along the lines of "oh, we need to get together sometime and catch up", but we all know they don't really mean it. Their merry little band has given this side of the family the moniker of "the cavemen" and they somehow think it hasn't reached out ears yet.
...
And yes, I have no fricks to give. None. If political differences of opinion are enough that they refuse to even visit with us, they can fly a kite. The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb, and life is too damn short to force myself to endure toxic relationships.

Kinda sorta. I was unfriended on FB by family bc I did a cheers at a wedding around some fellow Army guys that went something like “ to lesbians and virgins…thanks for nothing”
Apparently my aunt and uncle who has a lesbian daughter caught wind of it and didn’t approve. Haven’t talked to them since.

Yep .... my two oldest daughters. Both attorneys, one in Sacramento now and the other in Portland.
One of my neices .... she's in Atlanta.
All three now in their early 40s, lost causes.

My mil was a Clinton supporter when I started dating my wife, no pics. We had her converted by our marriage though. She became one of the most anti democrat people I knew. She had just never paid much attention to politics and trusted what she saw on the morning shows while drinking her coffee. The more my wife and I talked to her about issues she began to see the hypocrisy, lies, and deceit for herself. Before she passed, she had begun to tell me the crazy stuff they were doing on the left.

I hate all Democrats but since my family don't consist of a bunch of pussies none are so we all get along great.

Nope. It’s a little amazing how deep red every single family member is. Gets a little dicey if you expand into some in-law trees. But very few that I actually know.

Am the only sibling in my immediate family that is conservative. My parents both passed a good while ago. Mom was an old school southern Dem. My Dad was always conservative and I have always hoped to fulfill his values. My cousins! Very few are conservative, most are libs.

Yes. My two oldest daughters thought my wife and I were monsters for whooping it up during covid. And man, did we!
There was a very tense year, then a gradual change back to normal. My wife and I always acted like nothing had happened, and gradually the absurdity of their position caused them to morph back to their old selves.

I’m sorry; are you calling your two daughters “lost causes”?

Naah.. thankfully my entire family is all MAGA. I do have an 18 year old niece that turned into a boy because she (he) got brainwashed in High school but even she (he) is coming around to Trump
BUT that was when Biden was running (haven’t talked to she (he) since Kamala came on board (which I am pretty certain she (he) is probably now on the Kamala train

My sister.
She brought up the conspiracy theory that high schools were teaching
critical race theory and how ridiculous that thought was.
I pulled out my phone and showed her an actual high school textbook.
She tears up and screams “that’s not real” while I tried to explain
that I wasn’t arguing but simply stating facts.
We haven’t seen each other in person since.

My mom and dad were hardcore Democrats until the day they passed. Believed the Republicans only voted to help the rich and that they would take away their SS and Medicare. They always referred to Trump as "your president" to my brother and I because we left the democrats in Reagan's 1st term. We just avoided talking politics as much as possible with them to keep the peace.

What a disgusting thing to do to anyone, let alone your own flesh and blood. You could have spent time challenging and mentoring him, yet you decided to confirm every preconceived belief he ever had.

I don’t talk politics with my dumbass kids or dumbass nieces/nephews. They’ll come around when they start paying mortgages.
Posted on 8/16/24 at 10:16 pm to CU_Tigers4life
I won’t speak to 2 of my nieces and I only see them at Christmas.

We have family members who I'm sure don't come around because of politics, but no one's told them they aren't welcome. They do it to themselves.

Unfortunately yes. My nephew, who I took in on his 18th b-day because his family life was shite. Bought him a car, gave him direction until he wanted to go off and do his own thing.
He moved to the Seattle area and became totally indoctrinated. I love that kid more than anything but he will not correspond with me anymore.
It kills me looking at old pics of us before the brainwashing started. I'm hoping he grows up and comes to realize his beliefs are fools gold. In the meantime, my heart is broken
