re: Best fertilizer to promote lateral growth for bare spots

Get a soil test and see if it needs phosphorus (P). Many soils have plenty of P, the middle number of the 13-13-13 example. But if, in your case, P is deficient, that could hinder the spread....
re: Safe to spray weeds w/ Zoysia just waking up?
Posted by bkhrph on 4/25/24 at 2:45 pm
First, check the Celsius label. If no info, I’d still hold off.
Zoysia grows so thick, it will usually crowd out weeds and you won’t need to spray for weeds. That’s another reason I’d hold off.
These are just opinions, so do whatever ronk says it you want to know for sure....

re: Watering schedule for new Bermuda sod-- Edited: is it normal for it to still be yellow?
Posted by bkhrph on 4/21/24 at 3:52 pm
Are there any other tiftuf lawns you could look at locally to see if they’re greened up yet?
Maybe the sod came from Oklahoma where maybe it was still dormant.
I would think that just by cutting sod that it would be stressed and turn off-color for a time. But not as soon as it’s delivered, unless...

Buckeye, you sure are fighting hard against something you say doesn’t exist. In your own words you say “I’m not going to spend time engaging”, and “if I’m going to waste my time on something, it won’t be trying to pull some fundamentalist weirdo out of that mindset”.
Yet this is exactly what you’r...

Jesus spoke in parables to help them understand. A teaching tool. Not to make it cryptic.
And paradox it is because He Is the Way of Life and we are on the path to the way of death. Totally divergent paths. He offers redemption, but not on our flawed and fallen terms....
re: centipede to bermuda plan... (updated with pics)

How many hours of full sun do you get per day in the area you’re seeding? I ask because bermuda grass requires “full sun”(I think 6-8 hours per day). It won’t persist in shade. ...
re: Is Zoysia usually slow to green this time of year?
Posted by bkhrph on 4/19/24 at 10:01 pm
Depending on the variety, it will go dormant earlier in the fall and break dormancy later in the spring in general. This makes it much less likely to have problems with winterkill if you’re in the upper South....
re: Dollar weed .... how to kill it?
Posted by bkhrph on 4/17/24 at 4:38 pm
Penoxsulam herbicide. A Ferti-lome granular product called “Dollarweed killer” at local nurseries.
It’s also in Bio-Advanced weed and feed granules at Lowe’s. If you want to fertilize your grass at the same time.
All okay with St. Augustine grass...

re: Mulch washing away after rain, what about thin netting to stop it?
Posted by bkhrph on 4/16/24 at 9:20 pm
Mulch glue. Go to www.bdcbrands.com and look for Dominator Mulch Anchor. It claims to last 6-12 months. I’ve never used it, so I have no clue if it works....
re: Mixing Zenith and Zeon Zoysia
Posted by bkhrph on 4/15/24 at 10:59 pm
Zeon (Zoysia Matrella): narrow blade like hybrid Bermudas. Zenith (zoysia japonica) has a blade width halfway between zeon and St Augustine.
2 different textures, 2 different growth rates, and probably 2 different green colors.
Why not cordon off the area to traffic and let it fill back in? I th...

re: Mowers for residential Bermuda
Posted by bkhrph on 4/14/24 at 1:47 pm
If you’re not going to hybrid bermuda, you don’t necessarily need a reel mower. I mean, you surely can use a reel mower on common or hybrid, but don’t think you absolutely have to get a reel on all bermudas. What type bermuda are you looking at?...

I have a couple of Water Oaks with a high canopy and have tried both Empire and Palisades sod pieces. They just slowly faded out in the shadow of the trees and one or both (I can’t tell the difference between them) grow well just outside that. ...
