My first (and only) political science class at LSU in 1971 the professor introduced the class to the concept of gerrymandering, literacy testing and poll taxes. These strategies were used to prevent black southerners from having a fair shot at voting or electing a representative who would promote their causes. As a young impressionable guy I thought those concepts were reprehensible, and they were.

Today these actions are still being used to “fix” elections. The current gerrymandering is no less an obscene, undemocratic, illegal action that it was in the 1950-60’s.

Let’s fix the problem. Hopefully we are becoming a “more perfect union”
As our founders had hoped. Creating voting districts with assure a certain racial, political or religious outcome is patently unconstitutional and threatens our democracy.

I have been part of redistricting committees that helped draw voting districts. We drew a very fair and balanced set of districts that looked like blocks. The politicians then used that as a basis and redrew them to benefit themselves. I thought that was bullshite now and I think it is now. I don’t care if it is my party doing it. It means my party will not be accountable to its members, and the same mfers will decide everything.

Didn't the Supreme Court rule redistricting is at its heart a political process? To the victors go the spoils and I'll point to California, Illinois and New York for examples.

If we are just going to have Democratic Districts and Republican districts the parties will never be accountable to anyone but special interests and we are fooling ourselves to think we have a democratic republic, we don’t.

If Texas does this and then California and NY counter, wtf has anyone gained but less competitive districts so less accountability.

What Republicans are doing in TX with redistricting is nothing Dims wouldn't do if they could. What screwed the Dims in TX is the shift of the Hispanic/Latino vote towards republican. Dims are going to rue the day they allowed mass illegal immigration, thinking it was going to help them win elections.

You're right . Rs should just roll over and let the Dems continue to rout the Rs out of every blue state.

Let's do nothing and see how that works out in another 10 years

Well it’s been going on for over 200 years, so good luck in getting them to quit

The Republican party didn't exist them but the Democratic party did. Ergo, definitely democratic.

In General, but here is my thing, if the Courts allow Dems (Blacks mostly vote Dem) to have ONE CLICK that gets special treatment, then let the states have at it, but you cant let some states do it and not others.
