Wallace was in favor of segregation, just as the entire black population is right now.

Maybe even less so.

What's so crazy about it after all these years is, black's want their world to be segregated, and anything white to be inaugurated. Even though it's public property. Now private businesses, they'll drive clear cross town to go to better stores on what they call the "white side of town". I can't really blame them there.

One thing I distinctly remember about the Wallace administration is that I-59 was not completed through Birmingham until 1980. For my entire 4 years in school in Tuscaloosa, I had to take the back roads to pick up I-59 at the county line, below Bessemer. And for years when we went to see our Chattanooga relatives from Center Point, we had to drive out to Argo...also at the Jefferson county line...to pick up the interstate. Wallace kept the interstates from being completed...and after they were completed prevented them from being opened...because of politics.

People love to claim the party’s flipped and all the old racists became repubs, but here is the proof it’s bullshite.

The proof should be overwhelming to anyone who gives the claim honest scrutiny. The number of Dixiecrats that flipped can be counted on one hand. It was tantrum behavior for those who did. They were never going to convince Republicans to become as racist as they were/are.

Racism did not suddenly become the platform of the party that was more in favor of opposition to slavery and support for civil rights (Republicans), nor has it ever happened. Republican voters took on economic issues as the means by which all people could succeed once set free. Democrats conspired then and now to embrace economic policies that kept blackskins on the plantation.

Not as famous as it should be. Relatively few have ever heard of this. MSM made sure of that.

Just going to say this: In the case of George Wallace, things weren't usually as they appeared.

It was the D next to his name. People could literally campaign in their clan sheets as long as they're a Democrat and black people will still vote for them.

There's a dude in Maine running as a Democrat that is likely going to win and he has a Nazi tattoo on his chest. Can you imagine the non-stop REEEEing by the media, Democrats and libs if he was a Republican? It's pretty damn easy to get a tattoo coverup or tattoo removal these days... but he couldn't be bothered to do it.

IIRC, he lost his initial gubernatorial bid to John Patterson because he was a moderate regarding segregation, and Patterson was a staunch segregationist. That's when Wallace supposedly made his infamous vow regarding future elections. GW would say or do almost anything to get elected.

Wallace was a politician, not a segregationist. He did what it took to get elected.

George Wallace was Bill Clinton before Bill Clinton. Plus, he didn’t have to deal with Hillary

There are documented cases of Wallace going to speak at functions mostly made up of Blacks, saying, "Now, you all know I don't mean all that stuff I've been saying...."

In Birmingham they loved the governor, boo, boo, boo. Now we all did what we could do.

The reverse is also true.

Its how so many rino's end up elected. Democrats put an R on their name in red states to get elected.

Strom Thurman switched to Republican. You are hard pressed to get more segregationist than him.

Jesse Helms was not a patch on ole Strom's arse and Helms was rough.

I have been looking for a source for this quote for a long time but the internet seems to have scrubbed it. I always figured it could be useful in some discussions.

Robert Byrd was a certified Klu Klux Klan leader and was a Democrat until the day he died in office in 2010. He was part of the longest filibuster in history regarding the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and voted against it.. Another bum arse democrat like Wallace who helped rip this country apart with his racist segregation bullshite only to suddenly find redemption a short time later when it was politically expedient. Democrats took a shite all over black folks for decades, wiped their arse with the Civil Rights and then spent the next 60 years convincing idiots it was all republicans manning the fire hoses, and standing in school house doors. Democrats are nothing but trash.

At least you could say Byrd was at least honest about it. Can't say the same for Thurman or Helms.

I’ve been a Contractor in North Louisiana for 35 years and I long ago lost count of the black clients who have told me that they only hire white people to work on their homes. I will refrain from using the derogatory language they use when talking about their own race.

It's literally the opposite - as the South became less racist, it became more Republican.
