Two former senior FBI officials were charged Friday with making false statements to Congress about their roles in the investigation into Hunter Biden’s laptop in the final weeks before the 2020 presidential election.
The two ex-senior FBI officials, Nikki Floris, 46, and Bradley Benavides, 56, made their first appearance in court Friday in Washington, DC before federal Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui.
They were each charged with one count of allegedly lying to Congress about their roles on the FBI's Foreign Influence Task Force, and 'about their roles in the FBI's Hunter Biden investigation,' according to US Attorney Jeanine Pirro.
Floris is a former intelligence analyst who headed up the bureau's Washington Field Office, and Benavides formerly served as the deputy assistant director of the FBI's Counterintelligence Division.
The agents were charged by criminal complaint, which means that federal prosecutors have not yet secured an indictment in either case from a grand jury.
The timing of the charges - on the eve of a midterm election in which Republicans appear poised to cede their majorities in one or both chambers of Congress - sparked a wave of questions, including from Judge Faruqui during an initial court appearance Friday morning.
He noted that both Floris and Benavides have 'sparkling backgrounds' from their years in law enforcement, and that the alleged conduct 'happened years ago.'

Oh, the alleged conduct happened years ago, similar to the conduct they created 34 fake felonies over?

No one is above the law. Unless it happened several years ago.

Good bankrupt them. I am tired of public servants being untouchable

I don't even care about them. What I do want, however, is to know who instructed them.
Was it Wray or Comey? Both? Outside people?

It is easier to get that info on record when there is a plea deal being negotiated.

Do we need to guess who nominated him?

That's the magistrate who apologized to Cole Allen, just FYI

this "eve of an election" narrative is rich. we deal with this every 24 months. These MFers NEVER stop campaigning.

Magistrate Judge... even better. Appointed by the district court judges of DC District Court. So a merry mix of mainly Democrat nominated fricktardians.

Too bad, so sad. I guess those 'sparkling backgrounds' from their years in law enforcement are about to get the proverbial William Wallace treatment.

As bad as her lying about her role in the dustup over Hunter Biden's laptop is, Nikki Cole Floris was a Deputy Asst. Dir. in the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division. And that's impt b/c she was the lead for the FBI's election security operation to help secure the 2020 election.
However, instead of protecting our country's interests, as one would expect, Flores ran tip-of-the-spear operations as part of a "Shadow Government" (her words) to hide information about foreign involvement from the President of the United States.
This will only go thermonuclear from here

So a supposedly impartial judge is going to bat for them with the time honored argument of "Why you got to bring up old shite?"
Perfect.
