Lung cancer treatments have horrible real life expectations but are sold to the patient as life saving treatments at exorbitant costs.

The real problem with healthcare is that it in no way resembles the free market.

Do you not think that these companies would find a cure if they could? They immediately dominate the market and have significant pricing power when they do.

It’s just extremely difficult to find a legitimate cure for anything and then shepherd it through the approval processes. It’s not market incentives holding this stuff back.

Yeah, the line of thought that companies are holding back a cure is beyond stupidity.

Ok genius, tell me this. Why haven't countries with highly socialized health care found a cure for all of these diseases?

Probably the most inefficient government entity we have. Private military contractors often accomplish a lot of the same things at a fraction of the cost.

If your definition of "cure" is to take a medication and your body is returned to its normal function than, the only actual cures we have are antibiotics, and vaccines to prevent disease. For almost every other malady we only have treatments for the symptoms, quit taking the treatment, and the symptoms of the disease returns.

Healthcare is expensive because the government buys most of it and they are very poor shoppers. Their motivation is not to make the best buys of service but to make the most politically important buys of healthcare.

Because medicare establishes a floor for prices that providers cannot go below, the providers are constantly lobbying for higher reimbursement which then raises prices for all of us. Medicare limits competition and drives up cost.

"profit" in GAAP and tax terms is what remains after expenses. Profit for government and "non profits" are essentially any revenue. Non profits want more and more revenue so they can spend more and more money on salaries and services. There is no such of thing as a true "non profit". I try in my business to be a non profit when it comes to paying taxes.

Public school systems in the U.S. spend more money per student by a large margin than any private school yet have poorer outcomes by any measure.

Fundamentally speaking, competition is the only thing that will improve any of those "industries."

Competition is so distorted, stifled and/or eliminated by our command-economies/neofascist systems that it can't possibly work properly. But the leftist solution is to blame "capitalism."

Not meant to derail the thread but how are volunteer fire departments funded? Isn’t it a combination of govt funds and donations.

Should we take away profits for banks? Mortgage companies? Brokerages? Credit card companies?

It is amazing how many people confuse insurance with healthcare.

How retarded does one have to be to not realize that profit motivation is what actually makes industries successful?

No, we aren’t. You made an assertion with no evidence and that was, in the details, factually incorrect.

My point is that defense contractors (think Academi, Blackwater, etc) are usually subject to very little criminal liability or accountability. Who would have guessed that could lead to problems?

Again, what problems?

It would be infinitely worse.

Nope. A for-profit will ALWAYS be more effiecent than a charity.

Every. Single. Time.

You can stop big corporations from taking advantage of the less intelligent.

It amazes me how brainwashed most of you are. You will fight tooth and nail for the rich to get richer. All while society falls apart and the middle class gets poorer.
