They certainly can, and then fewer people will buy Crown Royal

So then our government has no revenue if as you say there should be no income or property tax and the government should only be funded by tariffs

We would be far better off with a much smaller government

Well i certainly agree there. But we should work on shrinking the government first rather than after we stop taking income

In simple terms, yes, a tariff is a tax used by the government to protect domestic production. The tax is generally paid by the importer, and the cost of which is largely passed down to the point of sale.

Yeah, that's how it should be in theory.

That's why all these companies are rushing to create manufacturing facilities in the USA: because they don't think they'll be paying the tariffs.

Would it? I don't think most American's lives would be negatively affected by this at all.

Yikes.

That's happening too. Have you missed DOGE? It's been all over the news.

I don't oppose consumption taxes. Totally okay with those.

If tariffs are a tax, then Rand Paul should be principled and support legislation to ban them in their entirety, not just Canada.

People invoke the founding fathers like they agreed on everything.

Yep, that's what the government is trying to accomplish via a tax - promotion of domestic production.

tariffs funded the federal government for the first hundred and 30 or so years of the country. I imagine they like them very much

Its fricking hilarious that Masse, of all people, would tell us that we should trust Congress to get this right!!!! What a fricking joke!!! Its just preposterous to suggest this!!!

The problems in Congress not representing the will of the people is our fault. We the people vote for those in Congress. We need to vote for better congressional representation.

Think about it, the only elected person that every single American can vote for is the POTUS.
Trump won the popular and the electoral vote.
Trump represents the will of the people.
If folks like Masse dont agree, he should have run for POTUS. Same goes for everyone else.
We the people voted for Trump and HIS plan, everyone else should (especially Republicans) shut the frick up and support the will of the American voters.

I have lost respect for Rand Paul just for going on camera with creepy arse Tim Kaine.

Virginia has my vote for the 2 creepiest senators (Mark Warner and Tim Kain) in the senate. Although it may be a tie with Connecticut with Murphy and Blumenthal.

Hamilton

May have been a Founding Father, but his concept of government and the economy was as much of a monarchist and mercantilist view than any other.

Bruh....congress delegated tariff power to the president a long time ago. Now they complain because they don't want to legislate. What they want to do is throw a fit on tv, but not do anything about it.

Hamilton also wanted America to be like England, central bank and all. I wouldn't cite people responsible for today's mess as heroes. Tariffs are taxes.

Even Rand Paul.

I just want to know what kind of dirt they have on him to make him go out in public with that haircut. I don't know what it might be but I'm pretty sure Trey Gowdy is knee deep in it too.
