From SNOPES:
SNOPES: IRS AgentsThis claim misrepresents a 2021 U.S. Treasury Department report estimating that around $80 billion in funding would allow the IRS to incrementally hire nearly 87,000 employees by the year 2031. Most of those hires would be replacements for workers retiring from existing positions, including not only IRS enforcement agents, but also customer service and technology specialists. According to the Treasury Department, audit rates for those earning less than $400,000 in actual income will not rise.
After the U.S. Senate had passed a sweeping spending budget in August 2022, A couple Congressmen began spreading false claims about the roughly $80 billion of funding allocated to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). They said, for example, that the IRS would be hiring 87,000 new tax agents who would be "coming for" average Americans.
The IRS is not planning to hire 87,000 new tax agents for the purposes of targeting or "coming for" Americans who earn below a certain income. These exaggerated claims appeared to be aimed, at least in part, at capitalizing on partisan anger over the raid on former U.S. President Donald Trump's home in Mar-a-Lago earlier in August. The raid was part of an investigation into whether Trump took classified records from the White House to his Mar-a-Lago residence, and had no apparent connection to taxes or the IRS.

even with the additional 86,000 they are busy raiding white collar crimes like mall cops. no one trusts them, they gave Eric Holder a flash drive so he can target non democrats.

With technology today, it's ridiculous we need the behemoth that is the IRS(we really don't need it at all, it's unConstitutional IMHO). I did my taxes with an online company that did all of the calculations in seconds once I put in my W2 info. Everyone should be able to do that easily and for free. Hell the IRS should be able to do it in seconds. The government, through our employer sends us our W2s, they have all of that info, we shouldn;t have to go through the whole teeth gnashing of "tax season". I get it would be tougher with deductions and businesses, but that could all be done much easier and quicker. I get there would be thousands of CPAs and lawyers who would have to learn to code, but this whole cluster is completely antithetical as to why this country was started in the first place.

This was a MASSIVE problem during COVID, until finally the IRS unplugged the computer for a while to give the humans time to catch up. It took them a very long time to catch up.
If Musk wants to really help here, when he fires the 6,000 people, he needs to unplug the computer for a while.
This is the best solution the gov't can come up with?
Time to blow it all up and start over. Stoopid Woodrow Wilson.

Biden provided FUNDING for that many.... only a small faction of net increase of jobs happeend.
6000 of 80,000 is 6/80 which is 3/40 or .075. Seems like a small fraction to me. Where is the issue?

quit crying. They hired 90k of you frickers just two years ago. Tell me another company who was able to do that while going bankrupt.

This is the part that can be changed to fix any problem. If DOGE using AI tools can produce the amount of information they have in days, modern tools can expose just how productive these people are.
I've heard about outdated computers at the IRS for years. I have also lived through a few software changes in the private sector, as well as a couple of ISO9000 implementations. The old people are always the problem. Drag it out into the sunlight. Best way is monitoring software that targets productivity.
Second best way is to reduce the number of cases handled internally and contract out most of the work to a highly qualified contractor.

95% of the issues with the IRS - and frustration from dealing with them - come from computers.
And you fail to understand why we are happy.

I'm not happy about them firing 6,000 people.
I want them all gone.
And the computers.

The IRS has a LONG and proven track record of targeting people and businesses, etc. for political reasons...same as many other agencies that make up the federal govt...This is a long time coming and is just the beginning..It doesnt matter what side the political isle you are on, targeting people and businesses because of their politics is unacceptable and now is time to pay the piper. frick them all

What type of limp wristed serf cries about the IRS losing employees?

You’re probably right.
In a sane world, these efficiency audits would be ongoing and staffing levels determined based on need with efficiency goals and money would be used to update systems.
But we don’t live in a sane world. Every branch of govt is a bloated jobs program that wastes money hand over fist, probably ripe with fraud and has consistently refused any oversight or intrusion into their operation. We’re $37T in debt and drastic steps need to be taken and quickly….before they find a way to shut it down. There is no will or time left to take a reasonable and strategic approach.
TL/DR pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered

Preach. I hate 1040s. haha
The seething in this thread is hilarious. Especially the "muh National sales tax" as if you don't need accountants and an agency to help administer it.
Our firm helps clients with sales tax compliance all the time...
Hint: sales tax can be insanely complex and the plebs on here have zero clue.

Bingo. I can't wait for the seething "where's MuH rEfUnd?!?!" posts from the mouthbreathers here.
They intentionally want to defund something and then get mad that it sucks.
MAGA is a bunch or retards that should never be taken serious. Ever.
