fwiw I approved the China tariff. I recognize some of the downfalls of it but I do believe those to be short term for long term benefits.
We needed them on steel and aluminum. China was dumpling hard on those industries and US steel and aluminum industries were having difficulty staying afloat. We need those domestic industries for national security reasons.
Now we need to do the same thing with pharmaceuticals.

Why did farm subsidies go up by a 4 mulitple from 2017-2020?
We have already been through this. You can jump up and down and demand we accept free trade with communist nations all day long. You can demand that we continue our march to globalism....
But the fact is, Trump's economy helped the whole nation and they did not see prices go up due to the tariffs.
Now go grab your half truth from the Chamber and their study.... I need a great laugh today

That probably is the one good thing he did. Not sure where it came from, because he doesn't seem like the kind of guy to actually get the big picture of what the country needs. Maybe it was a Bannon policy that he forgot about?
In any respect, they need to punish companies for shipping production overseas. We need crucial domestic production as not only a form of economic stimulus, but national security.

Paid for by whom?
EVERYONE that purchases those imported goods. Not just the 1% income tax payer. Everyone. Including the drug dealer and income tax cheat.

I am not saying that. I am saying that the taxpayers subsidized the farmers, which is true.

Good. Just want to make sure you realize that China isn't paying these tariffs. The importers first and then eventually the consumers are paying them. Progress has been made.

he hates american manufacturing jobs and loves chinese dumping.
tariffs did not affect me one iota. even wilbur ross said it COULD raise some goods a few pennies. I did not even see that. not in my wallet.
people thinking discretionary spending is the same as fed gov taxes is LOLOLOL

Agricultural subsidies have been implemented in this country for centuries. IDK how we eliminate ag subsidies without a severe interruption in food security.

And that's a legit reason for tariffs IMO. They have the exact same economic cost as crony capitalist tariffs, but the entire nation is getting something in return instead of whatever industry has the best lobbyists.
Trump's tariffs went well beyond national security.

You benefit yourself from subsidizing and subsidies lol.

Every tariff policy is not Smoot Hawley. It takes a nuanced approach to implement them effectively. Trump implemented them effectively to benefit the US.
They can not grasp this.

You really have to specifically spell things out for them....and even then, they'll still try to create some odd narrative to keep skyscreaming.

Not true.
I just trying to explain to some of you what actually happened even though you don't want to hear it.
I would like trade policy that doesn't result in having to do farmer bailouts.
quote:
people thinking discretionary spending is the same as fed gov taxes i
""It all comes from China," Trump said. "We'll be taking in, over time, hundreds of billions of dollars in tariffs and charges on China, and our farmers will be greatly helped."
The farm bailout is costless, Trump is arguing, because he's taking money from China and giving it to American farmers. That argument could only hold water if China were paying for the tariffs."
