Let's take steel. After the steel tariffs were imposed in March 2018, price indexes increased by 10.2 percent to 17.7 percent between February and September of 2018. That increase was less than the 25 percent tariffs themselves. And markets quickly adjusted, with domestic steel prices retreating to below pre-tariff levels within the following year.
"The report finds that on average from 2018 to 2021:
U.S. importers bore nearly the full cost of these tariffs because import prices increased at the same rate as the tariffs. The USITC estimated that prices increased by about 1 percent for each 1 percent increase in the tariffs under sections 232 and 301."

Ignore what.
You said there was no cost increase, I just proved there was. In fact, a dollar for dollar increase.

Sounds like Jj is completely full of shite.
The fact that he can't provide any actual data supports that.

I did post data.
The issue with the "study" he is using is it includes years Trump was out of office.
Steel rebar jumped from 3600 to rigt at 6000 in the year Trump was out of office and used by this "Study".
quote:
increased the price of steel products in the United States by 2.4 percent, and increased U.S. production of steel products by 1.9 percent.
That's WITH the year of 2021 included.

The United States International Trade Commission is an agency of the United States federal government that advises the legislative and executive branches on matters of trade. It is an independent, bipartisan entity that analyzes trade issues such as tariffs and competitiveness and publishes reports.

And you keep skipping over data. I'm using your source:
The issue with the "study" is it includes post Trump. He was out of office.
Steel rebar jumped from 3600 to right at 6000 in the year Trump was out of office and used by this "Study".

increased the price of steel products in the United States by 2.4 percent,
That is because 80% of the steel consumed in the US is made here.
This changes when I have no choice but to import because what I need isn't made in the United States.
If I wanted pipeline for the the oil field I would have to go to Mexico/Canada/China. My steel costs did increase from the tariffs. It was probably close to "dollar for dollar" like the study said.
Increased costs
So the tariffs did have an effect. They do increase prices.

You are not listening. Thew price went up 2.4% from 2018-21. In 21, the price moved from 3600 to right at 6000.

I quoted from YOUR study!
You literally stated in your post 2018-2021.

The story I linked is from 2018.
No sir. Or it would not have used the words "2021"

You are not being honest. We are talking about import prices. The study says this about imported steel.
"U.S. importers bore nearly the full cost of these tariffs because import prices increased at the same rate as the tariffs."

Quit lying. Again I am talking about this story which proves tariffs increased prices. It is from 2018.
tariffs increased pipe costs
Based on the story I linked, did the tariffs increase the price of imported pipe? Yes or No.

You are the one that just linked a story that has NONE of this QUOTE in it:
quote:
"The report finds that on average from 2018 to 2021:
U.S. importers bore nearly the full cost of these tariffs because import prices increased at the same rate as the tariffs. The USITC estimated that prices increased by about 1 percent for each 1 percent increase in the tariffs under sections 232 and 301."
None of that is in your link. You pulled that FROM USITC which is in THIS LINK
That was your quote from that.
I go back to facts, not your selected edit of a 2018 article that you claimed stated this:
quote:
The report finds that on average from 2018 to 2021:
U.S. importers bore nearly the full cost of these tariffs because import prices increased at the same rate as the tariffs. The USITC estimated that prices increased by about 1 percent for each 1 percent increase in the tariffs under sections 232 and 301.
Once again, As pointed out in this thread, Prices dropped in 2019 because Trump's plan worked. I get you want to focus on a small segment of 2018 (even though you tried to include 2021) but the reality prices dropped.
From the time Trump left office until that report, steel climbed from 3600 to almost 6000. That is how they came up with the 2.4% increase... they had to include 2021.
quote:
Based on the story I linked, did the tariffs increase the price of imported pipe? Yes or No.
I already answered that.
