For 18 Months Republicans have held a Legislative Majority - Yet No Real Border Laws Exist

Despite controlling both chambers of Congress and the White House, Republicans have failed to pass comprehensive legislation that permanently codifies President Trump’s key border reforms—ending catch-and-release, strengthening asylum restrictions, and mandating interior enforcement priorities—into durable statute.
Instead, they’ve relied on temporary funding measures and executive actions (mainly budget reconciliation) which lack the lasting structural changes needed for long-term security.
Without embedding these reforms in ironclad law, the next Democratic president could simply reverse them with a stroke of the (auto)pen, undoing any progress and resetting the border crisis all over again.

Except they don't. You only "control" the Senate if you have 60 votes. Nothing of any import is ever passed without 60 votes.

Sadly I think both parties want them here.
Your local GOP voting developer or farmer? He wants cheap labor.

Yes, they do. They are the same ones that have existed on the books for decades and they're finally being enforced. That has been one of the few true Ws that the Trump administration has achieved since January 2025.

They haven’t done shite. Complete waste of power. GOP works more efficiently for a Dem majority than when their own party is in power.

How does it get past a filibuster? And, if we just enforce the laws on the books, we're good. Even if they passed something the dems would ignore it once they get back into power.

Republicans don’t want to fix immigration.
They want the cheap labor and to keep their base wound up about it.
They are as wasteful as the democrats. It’s the same party.

I can guarantee you that they won't be doing a thing to address this before the midterms. And then if the Dems get a majority in the House or Senate, this opportunity is gone for the foreseeable future.
The GOP leadership knows exactly what they're doing. They know we know exactly what they're doing. There is a certain psychotic boldness to it.

All the necessary "border law/s" already existed. Trump simply enforced the existing laws! It was NEVER legal or ok to allow millions of unvetted illegals to enter the US.
Again, it's amazing how you Marxist Dem idiots think we are as dumb as y'all are! Lol

I wish more people understood how the Senate works. You cannot pass legislation with 51 votes. The other side can block it with a filibuster. Cloture can only be achieved with 60 or more votes. It is rare for either party to hold a 60 vote majority in the modern era, so legislation often never gets passed at all, or is very watered down to "please both sides."
The last time the Senate had a filibuster proof majority was in 2009-2010 during Obama's first term. And even then, they needed two independents to move over to give them the 60.

Thune and Johnson are McConnell and McCarthy.

LOL you act as though this merely escaped their attention and isn't being done deliberately.

They aren't interested in a solution. Neither are the Democrats. They want the issue to live on in perpetuity.
Neither sides wants to fix the abortion issue, either. They want to use the issue to rile up their base's enthusiasm to vote. To do so, they keep arguing the positions from the extremes.
Take the abortion issue. Too many Democrats vote to keep all abortion legal and too many Republicans vote to ban all abortion. They will never get enough votes to pass a bill from either side. They probably could get a bill passed that says no abortions after 15 weeks, or something in the middle, but then they would not have the issue to leverage for the next election.

There are plenty of effective border laws, but they are ignored by dems when they have control.
The only law that might be needed is one that makes it criminal for officials to ignore border laws.

They really haven't done shite since holding the majority. It's been very disappointing.
