quote:Its not “punishment”. If you can’t pay your bill, it’s irresponsible and reckless to add more debt you cannot pay.
You shouldn’t be punished if you want to buy a car or a house because you got cancer and it’s taking you awhile to pay the bills.
Describing personal responsibility as “punishment” is something g a childish teenager would come up with.
So if you want to play emo…. Why should the lender be “punished” with the cancer patients bad debt? What did they do to deserve it?

How about the root problem where the MEDICAL INDUSTRY PREYS ON AMERICANS!
I’ve been paying my insurance for employees for years & I know for myself & family, $2800 month.
Then I have a couple of surgeries and they hit you with a $60,000 surgery that took an hour for a torn bicep, then the insurance company hits me with a 10-20% supplemental bill.
The medical industry causes tons of bankruptcies, so STFU Keltic as you are living in a bubble.
Med bills should not be on credit reports, PERIOD!

The CFPB needs to go. A bunch of bureaucrats are enacting and enforcing laws when no one elected them to do so.
Chevron Deference being struck down took care of that. It's now up to the lower courts to enforce it.

Yeah, just be a slave to the system and they are so nice that they finance the it frickery over the life of your life.
Frick this entire medical system. Trump has not addressed this at all.
People are getting taxed to death
Pharma is killing us
Agriculture is poisoning us
Med insurance is a joke
This entire country sucks!

I guess this can be one of the few Biden-era rules I actually agree with. The medical machine in this country is a travesty and destroys people's lives with unrealistic costs. People don't purposely overextend themselves with medical costs.

But a lender needs to know the risk of the borrower paying back a loan. If medical debts put the risk of default of a loan up, then the lender needs to charge a rate on the loan that offsets the risk. Its not the lenders fault that a borrower has medical debts.....
Wouldn't the borrowers history of paying back loans be a better measure than unintended medical debt?
No one misses a house or car payment due to medical debt, because healthcare can't be repossessed. Healthcare debt is a poor indicator of a person's ability and willingness to pay back a loan they choose to take out.
As another poster mentioned, medical debt collectors will get off your back as long as you are paying something each month. It's not treated like other debt when paying, so why treat it like other debt for reporting?
Preventing someone from getting a car or house loan because they had a medical emergency is dumb. It's harmful to the middle class which makes it harmful to America.

Physicians and hospitals are fricking criminal
Hospital systems and insurance carriers, yes.
Physicians at the individual level, debatable.
In many ways, they’re victimized by the other two as much as the patient is.
I think people overestimate the median physician income. It’s not very high, particularly considering they don’t start earning until they’re in their 30s.
The ones who do make a lot typically make most of it from business operations; their MD/practicing of medicine is probably less than a 3rd of their income.

I actually think this was a good thing and we should codify it. Shame the cfpb didn't have authority for it

So, when are you moving to one that sucks less? Surely you are, what with this "entire country sucking" and all that.

Looks like Jerome is going to lower interest rates soon. The left is trying to get out in front of the lower rates. By adding this metric there will be people who will not be able to get a loan and blame OMB.

I don't really care for this line of thinking because often the person being critical of this country is not wrong and all the "love it or leave it" person is doing is carrying water for negative forces actively undermining the stability of this nation.
My answer to your question would be that I'd rather stay and make this country greater.

I understand your point, but overpriced medical care for catastrophic injuries isn't just "Welp, I'm gonna rack up a ton of debt for 2 new cars, an RV, 3 side by sides and 4 vacations to Disney".
I also understand that, as the lender, you're entitled to be paid back as well.
Tough situation.
