I admit I do not understand the school options down your way.
However, you have already stated MOST of these charters are open enrollment.
These parents aren’t claiming their child cannot get an education, they’re salty that this fancy pants exclusive school denied him a seat he was never owed to begin with.
The child would NOT get the supports he needs in that environment and every effort to support him would necessarily take away from the students hand selected FOR that environment.
The parents are look-at-me jerks.

In full transparency, I did NOT put Willow on my kids' one apps. I don't agree with selective enrollment schools, so I don't utilize them. I don't care what other parents choose for their kids, though. I'm not on a rampage to get selective-enrollment schools shut down.

There's really no way around this without being discriminatory, though. And if discrimination is allowed based on a disability... it just opens Pandora's Box.

Yeah, trying to insert a kid like this into the most selective magnet type school in the Parish, seems like about the stupidest way possible to try to force this issue.
And I actually recognize it's an issue, knowing people who have literally moved out of the Parish specifically because of it.

I wonder why he did not sue the Orleans Parish School Board. That is the responsible party. Either bad lawyering or he had some reason that is not clear and took a chance.

Doesn't sound much different than a magnet school? Are we going to get rid of them so that no one is capable of higher achievement because some people can't reach that level?

Just being curious about stupid shite like this, I looked up the case and can probably answer my own question.
The father did not sure OPSB because his son attends the one school run by OPSB and is "thriving": "O.E. is currently attending NOLA-PS’s one direct-run school and is “thriving” there; though, his mother expressed that “there’s been a lot of speculation about whether the school will be in existence after this year,” which puts O.E.’s family in “limbo” regarding O.E.’s future schooling.

Parents of kids with IEPs? Curious when this happened. There were so many special education abuses in the years right after the storm.
