My dad went to Fortier for a year but ultimately graduated from Kennedy. I’m curious how he ended up going to school uptown when he lived on Spanish Fort tbh. He was born in 1952 so high school would have been late 60s for him. Maybe busing?
Everyone has hard ons for Willow but I turn my nose up to to it.

Omg YESSSSSSSS. In New Orleans at least, students are there to serve the schools. Schools are funded by the number of students they enroll, so schools need students. But the stars of charter schools are the 29 year old administrators with their theater degrees and 2 years of Teach for America teaching experience.

My mom had looked it up in case my parents couldn’t afford Catholic high school - we thought for sure we were zoned Warren Easton but nope, it was Kennedy.
Luckily I was able to work for cash and help pay tuition.
My PawPaw finished at Redemptorist but went to Fortier when his parents couldn’t afford tuition. He was at Fortier when Russell Long was there.
Now it’s Willow - where you can buy cocaine from your teacher!

Same here.. butts in seats is the bottom line, a ticker in front of every school office boasting the % attendance for the current day.

In my area of SC there's not a huge amount of charter schools... when we DID get a notable one, it ended up stinking and I believe is now run by a late 20s early 30s dude. So, I can believe it.

My husband’s white grandfather graduated from Warren Easton. Hasn’t it always been a pretty good school? Even after integration? I don’t have any familiarity with public schools here before Katrina. I went to private schools until college.

My oldest had an IEP for speech when he was younger. He was denied services by the charter school school that was charged with providing services to 3-year-olds with IEPs making them eligible for special education services but not eligible for school enrollment.
I was teaching in a charter school at the time and only realized what was actual going on through happenstance. But I can be way more annoying IRL than I an here and I certainly know how to navigate be autocracy so I filled a formal complaint with the state and got compensatory services for him.
I had to do the same thing when my daughter was 3 and also had an iep for speech but the actual school board was the incompetent party in her situation.

When I worked at the public library, a coworker of mine was offered $80,000 to be a librarian at a now defunct charter school
I meant mental abuse because a charter school I know of has a transgender teacher that likes to talk about its transgenderism.

One of y’all’s classmates is a principal or vice principal at one of the Willow campuses. But she’s been close friends with my sister since they were in high school and she’s a great person who I really respect and adore.

I’ve been stuck in Baton Rouge since Katrina but because of my work I’ve met plenty of kids from Willow - I have my opinions.
Until COVID we went to NOLA every weekend and I had some hope of moving back. But that’s gone now.

Why would you want your kid to go to this school after you created this problem? The entire faculty is going to resent the kid, disabilities or not.

There should be. That should open up the city and school board to all types of litigation. Thst also isn't the fault of any charter or private schools.
