Where does this end? What if a Dem tosses an Israeli student for "supporting genocide"? Let's say Kamala won and made Victoria Nuland her SOS and she's scooping up students critical of our support for Ukraine for supporting "terrorist Putin."

This is the pendulum swinging back harder the other way. Progressives have fricked this country and if they ever get power again things will get ugly fast.

I probably missed it, but did the govt say that a college paper editorial is the reason for her deportation?

And the right-wing judges won't have the balls to file these injunctions.

That's when the media will unwind the conservative judges ties to Epstein Island.
Time for the good old DC black mail machine to kick into overdrive.

People really need to listen to Dan Carlin's newest podcast. He really hammers this point home from a real center moderate position. If you let the government push the boundaries on what is protected speech amongst a more vulnerable population (visa holders) then those norms will eventually be used against the citizen. Unless the GOP plans on doing a coup, the Democrats are going to have this power expansion of executive discretion one day.

Where should it begin? Are we obligated to tolerate all speech of foreigners in our country?

I dunno it says "ties to hamas". I'm sure if you call up the FBI or DHS they will give you that information.

All speech? No.

Established protected speech? Yes.

As long as Muslims preach death to America your argument falls flat.

Is that op-ed the stated reason for the deportation?

If so, I certainly don’t support such a move.

I hope there is more to it than this.

Any foreigner who comes to America and wants to sow discord and bitch and moan about how things are here or how institutions run are fricking scumbags and need to GTFO.

I can paste the Google summary that reads right by my knowledge of 1st amendment case law history:

quote:

The First Amendment protects a wide range of speech, including unpopular or offensive ideas, but it doesn't protect all forms of expression, such as incitement to violence, true threats, or obscenity. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Here's a more detailed breakdown: [2, 3, 5, 6]

• Broad Protections: The First Amendment, which states that "Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech," protects a vast array of expression, including spoken and written words, symbolic speech (like protests or wearing certain clothing), and artistic expression. [1, 2, 3, 5, 6]
• Examples of Protected Speech: The First Amendment protects speech even when it is unpopular, offensive, or controversial. [3, 7]
• Narrow Exceptions: There are some narrow exceptions to the First Amendment's protection of speech, including: [2, 3, 4] Incitement to imminent lawless action:

Speech that is intended to and likely to incite violence or other unlawful acts. [2, 3, 4]

True threats:

Statements that communicate a serious intent to commit an act of unlawful violence. [2, 4]

Obscenity:

Material that is deemed obscene under legal standards. [2, 3]

Defamation:

False statements that damage someone's reputation. [3]

Fighting words:

Words that are likely to incite an immediate violent reaction. [2, 3]

Child sexual abuse material [2]

• Symbolic Speech: The First Amendment also protects expressive conduct, or "symbolic speech," which is the behavioral equivalent of speech. [3, 6]
• Government vs. Private Entities: The First Amendment protects against government restrictions on speech, but it doesn't prevent private entities from setting their own rules. [8, 9]
• Ongoing Interpretation: The Supreme Court continues to interpret and refine the scope of First Amendment protections through case law. [5, 10, 11]

Generative AI is experimental.

I’m totally opposed to throwing people out based on speech. It’s anti-American and it’s bad optics for the administrations efforts to deport illegals.

The flip side is that unfortunately this is what happens when you have years of unfettered immigration; when you try and clean up inevitably some people get tossed who don’t deserve it.
