This is a very good point. Fauci wants to have it both ways and there is a serious flaw in his thinking here.
If the masks and other forms of NPI are to be credited with the virtual absence of a flu season, then this proves just how ineffective these practices were for COVID. Flu is the positive control in the experiment. It went down while COVID went up.
Put another way, if flu season didn't happen because of our NPI, why did the nationwide COVID surge occur in December and January? Why was there a surge in Michigan in April?

And it certainly ids most of them as full-bred lemmings. (there are certain instances where wearing masks is an individual necessity or courtesy - over 3 years ago I had a constant cough and a severely compromised immune system due to the regimen of chemotherapy I had been on for 10 years - so I would wear one of my lawn-mowing masks when I went into any crowded area (mostly the grocery store) Just didn't want other patrons to feel uncomfortable as I walked around coughing like a TB patient)
I suspect small percentage of others have non-covid motives as well - but all are suspect because of this Fauci dilemma.

Well maybe in some areas but I can promise you that here in TX.... that's not gonna be the "norm".

The control Isn’t the flu, it’s doing nothing if you’re testing the effectiveness of masks/social distancing/washing your hands preventing a different disease.

I was at the Grand Canyon last week. Clearly the National Parks leadership thinks and treats this thing like it was still running rampant.
The workers who work there and live there do not. One told me that because he lives on the park property, that even while off duty, if he steps outside, he must be masked at all times or risk being fired.
They had signs up all over about mandatory mask use. It was strictly enforced going inside buildings. But outside, I'd say that 98% of the folks were ignoring the signs and not wearing them outdoors in the park.
Someone at the federal level has turned the majority of flight attendants into Mask Nazi's as well.
Southwest Airlines has also changed policy. If you wear any type of vented mask or bandana type mask, they are not approved via them and you will be made to switch to one of the blue medical ones they give you.

I'm not sure how many different ways I can say that this statement is absolutely false.
NPI recommendations were developed to reduce transmission of communicable diseases with influenza being the far most common. If the argument is made that our NPI recommendations and policies are responsible for low numbers of flu cases while COVID surged, then the conclusion is that NPI was ineffective and containing COVID.
I'll give you an FDA example. Drug A reduces plasma glucose, but I want an additional indication for hypertension. So I recruit 10,000 diabetic and hypertensive subjects from 10 national centers and give them my drug. As expected, glycemic control is restored in my study while blood pressure rises. On what planet am I getting an indication for hypertension following my study? I know my drug was properly administered to my population because glucose came down. It's the positive control in the experiment.

The Flu didn't disappear, it just got lumped into COVID because COVID paid and Type-A and Type-B did not.
No other explanation for someone testing positive on a Type-B test and then also testing positive on a COVID at the same appointment.
Masks were nothing more than a TEST to see who all they can control and herd into the rail cars easily when the time comes.
