Fauci Claims He Had ‘Nothing to Do’ With School Closures.
Jon Miltimore
Tuesday, October 18, 2022
Dr. Anthony Fauci’s recent dodge on school closures is at odds with many of his own statements.
The economist John Kenneth Galbraith once quipped, “Nothing is so admirable in politics as a short memory.”
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), was asked whether it was a “mistake” for schools to remain shut down for so long during the pandemic.
“I don’t want to use the word ‘mistake,’ Jon, because if I do, it gets taken out of the context that you’re asking me the question on,” Fauci explained on Sunday. “We should realize, and have realized, that there will be deleterious collateral consequences when you do something like that.”
Fauci is correct that there were serious “deleterious” consequences of school closures. For example, it was recently reported that the class of 2022 saw average ACT scores plummet to the lowest level in more than thirty years, and there’s no reason to believe that younger students didn’t experience similar results. Lost learning is hardly the only “deleterious” consequence, however; the decline of mental health among youths during lockdowns has also been well chronicled.
...
But it gets worse. Fauci goes on to claim he had nothing to do with the damaging policy.
“I ask anybody to go back over the number of times that I have said we’ve got to do everything we can to keep the schools open, no one plays that clip,” Fauci told Karl. “They always come back and say, ‘Fauci was responsible for closing schools.’ I had nothing to do [with it].”

Gov. Cuomo calls me up and asks my advice on whether to close schools in the orthodox Jewish section of Westchester where they have 90 cases (more than rest of NYC). I tell him yes.

I spoke with Bill de Blasio (Mayor – NYC) and convinced him based on what I was saying publicly and my conversation tonight to close the NYC schools (he had already decided based on what I was saying on TV). I went on to tell him he should close the bars and restaurants in NYC. He said that he would base this on my recommendation.
I had a similar call with Ann O’Leary, the COS of Gov. Gavin Newsom of California. Ann said that based on my TV appearances today and yesterday, the Governor has decided to close the schools in California as well as the bars and restaurants.
When I left the WH and crossed Pennsylvania and 17th Street, several cars honked their horns and shouted “thank you” out the window.

aggressive mitigation 15 day strategy -- close schools where there is community spread

During press briefing reporter asked PTUS a question about Gov. DeSantis (RFL) wanting to open his schools in May and would not that endanger lives of people since there are many cases in Florida. He did not answer and then the reporter asked what my opionion was. I spoke generically saying I am not aware of the situation in Florida, but in general, if there are active cases in community, children in school could spread the virus. Later that afternoon DeSantis called my cell and explained that he wa evaluating the situationon a week by week basis and did not make any definitive decisions and the districts that he was considering opening the schools were districts with very few infection.

Tonight, CNN really played up the “feud” between the POTUS and me. They fed him that I said we should not open schools, when in fact, I said that we would not have a vaccine in time to vaccinate the students (mostly college) for the August/Fall semester.
Fauci is a pathological liar!

It's all bullshite as we know, but for what its worth the NBA suspended play on March 11th in front of all of us which was shocking. Don't think that was a Fauci call. Everything else fell like dominoes or so it seemed. Even DJT had to come out and say we were looking at things being back to normal by Easter 2020 which was impossible. Total craziness looking back at the day to day coverage and changes to global society.

Have you not seen all his self absorbed quotes that have been getting posted?
The dude has a sick craving for adoration from the public.

I'm no fan of Fauci, but the closings were not his call. That's the elected officials making the call to close schools and businesses. Don't absolve the politicians like governors and mayors who controlled law enforcement. Fauci was a guy giving his opinion on the basis of a perceived expertise that Trump acquiesced to at the time. Even Trump did not have the power that the local guys did.

We knew that.
He's obviously also a pathetic person who got off on his opinion being so highly overrated through that whole shitshow....

His hearing is when 8:30am in the morning? Is it open or closed?

horseshite. I can't believe Trump kept he and Birx as advisors for so long. We're STILL experiencing the influence of those decisions today with the cost of everything.

This man is totally sick!! Fauci may be more narcissistic than every Dem in the Democrat Party combined. Let’s hope someone is continuing to look into the legality of the pardon he received before Biden left office.

I'd wager that 98% of them don't even know about the Fauxci diary.
It's not exactly a hot topic on BlooseGuy, and the MSM won't touch it.

What an ego maniac pushing a fraudulent vaccine. Hope they shame him into oblivion.

As if Fauci, Dem politicians and the teachers unions were not in constant contact with each other.
Here comes this elf (Fauci) acting as if all three were separate ships trying to navigate things.
Fauci gave cover to the teachers to do what they were absolutely ecstatic to do....get paid for a year or two to switch to 'remote learning.'
