We have only emboldened them. Hate to say it, but we're going to have to either do this the right way or cut our losses and take it on the chin now. I sure hope we do it the right way, otherwise Iran's control over the middle east will only strengthen with assets from Russian and China pouring in.

Why would I be hoping for this?

Trump should have never gotten into this but when he did he should have taken kharg island weeks ago.

I’m just using logic.

We had trouble controlling the strait. (Proof they weren’t decimated)

We gave them time to restock.

Now they are actively claiming to be targeting US bases.

What about any of that says “decimated military” to you.

Full statement from CENTCOM:

“U.S. forces successfully defeated multiple Iranian ballistic missiles and drones, and conducted self-defense strikes on Qeshm Island in response to attempted attacks by Iran across the Middle East, June 2.

Iran launched several ballistic missiles toward regional neighbors; however, all failed to hit their intended targets. Two Iranian missiles fired at Kuwait fell short or broke apart enroute, and three missiles launched at Bahrain were immediately intercepted by U.S. and Bahrain air defense forces.

Moments earlier, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces shot down three one-way attack drones launched by Iran toward civilian mariners that were rightfully transiting regional waters. American forces also conducted self-defense strikes on an Iranian military ground control station on Qeshm Island.”

Nick Sorter and Nick Shirley could join forces and put CNN out of business.

Then the Iranian army should revolt and help remove the IRGC

How long until Trump assures us that this doesn't violate the ceasefire?

This doesn’t seem ideal.

Trump’s only saving grace in the midterms is that the Democrats are still a rudderless organization with no clear governing message.

It doesn't matter what I believe.

quote:

An assessment by the Center for Strategic and International Studies security think tank has provided new insight into the extent of the depletion of United States weapons stockpiles during its 39 day assault against Iran that was launched on February 28. Prior to the campaign, warnings had already been issued regarding U.S. ammunition reserves, with large scale donations of equipment to Ukraine under the Bidan administration, more than a year of fighting against Yemeni Ansurullah Coalition forces, and support for Israeli missile defence roles during a 12 day war with Iran in June 2025, having all taken a toll on a stockpiles. The result has been a severe weakening of the United States’ ability to wage war across multiple theatres, and the suspension of arms deliveries to strategic partners in Asia and Europe.

The US has used 50% of key munitions. Iran has retained 70% of theirs.

And that doesn't even get into the cost. We spend millions to their thousands.

Iran's nominal GDP is projected to reach approximately $425.99 billion by the end of 2026.

As of 2026, the United States has the world's largest economy by nominal GDP, estimated at approximately $32.38 trillion.

Interesting point, as that's about how much money we've added to our national debt in the last 26 years.

But sure, it's smart for us to spend 5-15 million per missile while Iran is tossing $35k drones and cheap short range missiles at us.

Hopefully the neocon shitbirds die out with baby boomers, otherwise this country is toast.

Some of the missile defense systems they've destroyed are in the billion dollar range

And here is an interesting angle that people might not be considering. The bond market might be what pressured us into negotiating the initial cease fire. To fight a war you have to fund it and it looks like the bond market is not signing off on this disaster.

I'd imagine they want to see some kind of clear objectives actually accomplished.

do this the right way

What is the "right way" here? Where is our coalition? Our most reliable partner the UK wants no part of this debacle, and other potential allies, including Poland and Eastern European states, have their own worries with Putin. It's The Magnificent One-- on his own.

I sure hope we do it the right way

So you're the geopolitical strategist here. Please inform the Department of Defense as to what constitutes "the right way." No one seems to have a clue

Which begs the question how did Trump or someone else in his orbit not know this? The IRGC will fight until the last man is standing. They won’t quit like the Iraqi army did at the first sign of adversity. This is one big frick up that we have no way of winning other than total destruction which we are not going to do.
