How dare they ask me to justify my check.
We all know (because he has tweeted multiple times about this) that Elon Musk is the one who is requesting and reading these emails. We all also know that Elon Musk and Donald Trump are indiscriminately terminating masses of federal employees.
Someone's direct supervisor isn't requesting their employees randomly email this list. It's coming from HR to be forwarded to Elon Musk who has no idea what people should be doing at work in the first place.
This whole exercise is just a setup to fire people. That's what people think is silly. If you're going to fire them, just do it. Don't pretend like these emails actually matter.

I'm ATC and this whole thing is ridiculous. We have no job requirement that requires checking email and probably 80% of the people I work with have no clue what their login even is. The lack of clarity from all parties involved is a fricking joke.

Regular Americans don't have a problem with employees having to be accountable, as they generally have to be accountable to their boss.
The idea that this is a hill that the democrats want to die on is comical.
I think people didnt care how productive a gov worker was when it was the rule that gov workers made shite for pay but had security, healthcare and decent retirements.
Now, though, most gov jobs outstrip corp world in pay and much better benefits, but they also got security, yearly COL increases and GREAT retirements.
People are frickin pissed.

it's very rare that i couldn't respond with 5 things i did that last day, as menial as some could be, nonetheless a week.
also, there may be a day or two where i don't talk to my boss, but we communicate a dozen times a week at minimum via phone calls, zoom, texts, or emails.

No doubt. Just playing devils advocate.
I can’t imagine the stress of someone on vacation worried that a tweet will lead to them losing their job. As unlikely as it is, it’ll be in the back of your mind.
I have a family member who is fairly high up in the federal government (GS-15) and she has been on vacation since last week, and doesn't come back until tomorrow. She probably responded the the email even though she was off of work, but she shouldn't have to do that nonsense.

25 at 9:06 am to tadman Sure, but there are also folks who don't have access to their emails after work hours and may be on vacation... So those folks should be terminated?
Hahahhahahahahha hahahhahahahhaha hahhahahahhahahha hahahhahahahhahahha hahhahahahahha Hly sht hahahahhahahha
This is where the argument is now

I'm sure it's stressful, and honestly if I was under the same request I'd be a little perturbed as an established employee.
But at the same time I'd understand if new management comes in its a simple way for them to do the most basic of check ups on a large amount of people.
If you have 1,000 people and 50 don't respond. You dig a little deeper and see 10 of those people were on vacation, 10 were sick and 10 had other good excuses. The remaining 20 just ignored you or didn't check their emails for a week. That's a pretty easy way to cut 20 people of fat.

Do government employees not receive email on their iPhone? As soon as blackberry came out I’ve never not had email on my phone. Honestly, do they only get emails on their laptop?

Companies don't hire consultants and have outside audits?
With absolutely no metrics to assess performance other than “send us an email”?
Also when outside audits are performed, they hire firms who actually know your line of work and level of effort. That’s, not what’s happening here.
So yes, the way things are happening here make no sense and don’t happen the same way anywhere else.

Is it not obvious to you that it has nothing to do with performance? You think they're reading every email?
It's a simple filter to find people who aren't doing the most basic of tasks as responding to emails.

My friends were told to not respond by their bosses. They actually work though…in the office every day.

If that were the case they’d just say “respond to this email”.

You can't "just fire" gov employees that aren't on probation.

I’m guessing Musk took it upon himself to send out that email without checking with the rest of the administration.
