They were saying 10 years ago that Radiologists were going to be replaced by AI, but there still there.

I still can't wrap my head around the technology of driverless cars. Seems surreal.

Honestly it was very scary at first driving in an FSB vehicle but it drives so well now that I trust it more than I trust my own driving. It took me home from the basement garage at the Superdome during the Saints game. It drove me home without me touching a brake, blinker, or accelerator. It navigated out of the superdome parking garage through the police directing traffic, through the orange traffic cones on the ground, onto the interstate and then home. It was pretty freaking incredible--even the NOPD officer was watching in a state of shock.

Mea culpa. It appears that the OP is the one who can't do the math, as the quote was for three years, not 48 months. My apologies.

Not sure what’s funnier. How confidently wrong you were or the other retard who upvoted your posts about it lol

Elon says in the video 48 months.

Why don’t we have autonomous taxis operating in every major metro in the country?

How the frick should I know? My point was that you don't know the future and YOU believing it to be impossible doesn't really mean anything.

Bookmark this thread then.

1) Elon has never accurately predicted a launch/production timeline for any product he’s involved with.

2) I work with current surgical robots. I operate on people. We are so far away from complete surgical robot autonomy, this will be like every other prediction he’s made.

3) even if there was a robot that could autonomously perform surgery without any human input or intervention, it still wont be used in the western world due to regulations within the next “48 months.”

Still not sure why you’re white knighting for Elon so hard in a field/use case you clearly know nothing about.

Imagine if we reduce the cost of health insurance and auto insurance by using robots and autonomy.

Just have White robots, Black robots, Brown robots, & Yellow Robots. DEI issue solved.

I get reflexively angry at you "that's impossible" and "that can't be done" types. The pessimism simply disgusts me. The arrogance (likely unfounded) in such prognostications is also pretty irritating. I stand by my underlying point: The chances that you know shite about shite are pretty low, otherwise you wouldn't be posting here. You'd be too busy being the best at something.

Calm down cowboy. It’s Saturday night. Chances are the people here purporting to be surgeons are kind of a big deal in their towns and have real world knowledge to share. Elon is hopelessly off base here. We’ll have people on Mars well before we have fully autonomous surgery.

Imagine the economy if we gut the health care jobs the bloat has caused. This is an economy built on a house of cards.

We will always need human experts in all fields as a matter of national security. If man forgets all that has been learned, we are just one EMP away from the stone age. Doctors, engineers, architects, lawyers, scientists etc. We will always need to maintain enough to take over if something unexpected happens.

My son is about to enter into an ophthalmology surgery residency. He has used robotic assisted devices for surgery. That is one thing, but having robby the robot doing your surgery,,,danger danger. Musk may be correct that it is POSSIBLE that such a thing can be accomplished, but you have to get by the regulations set in place by the AMA, FDA, unions, insurance companies to actually have this be a thing. These entities will defend their occupation through legislation until enough evidence exists that it is infallible and cheap for them. I call 15-20 years when all us old geezers that don't trust robots die off.

Elon has also said his cars would be fully self driving next year for the last 10 years, and that most recently F35’s and stealth is a waste of money which has been proven spectacularly wrong in both Iran and Venezuela.

Yep, everyone needs medical people and allows them to work anywhere.

Caretakers, PT, and nurses are a lifetime job that Ai can't provide going forward.

Many surgeries may be AI done, great.
Just like pilots that can be replaced.

Yet, it’s optimism that is the most cruel.

People seem to vehemently defend Elon through a political lens rather than the reality of the world. You cannot interject a new medical procedure, pharmaceutical treatment, or technological advancement without rigorous testing and approval. Even if Elon had the technology right now to create robot surgeons, it would take years of cutting through red tape and appealing to regulatory entities.

If that’s “pessimism,” then call me pessimistic.

Just use a doctor over 40. They weren’t part of the DEI era.

And Elon is completely wrong.
