Good Gawd. The #1 lithium producing country is Australia. The country with the largest lithium reserves is Chile. And Elon Musk, who is building a lithium factory outside of Corpus Christi, Texas said in an interview lithium is not a rare mineral on earth. It can be found in relative abundance.

So those of us who don't want to subsidize our enemy china with our hard earned money should just shut up and keep allowing our politicians to sell us down the river?

Your government has already sold you down the river. Parroting every meaningless phrase on this board won’t help. But what the hell keep on keeping on.

Lithium is not the only mineral used to produce these batteries.

When battery technology is competitive with the ice then it will be time. All we are doing now is enriching the country whose stated goal is our demise.

Recently travelled six hundred miles in an ice powered car that comfotably seats four on eighteen gallons of fuel. Refueled in ten minutes. Electric cannot come close to that performance.

Your indulgence is not possible for most Americans and your insistence on converting will have the effect of forever taking away that possibility.

You must be a young whipper snapper.

I am about to take a 2000 mile roundtrip vacation in an ICE powered car. I will stop at Love's to fuel it up. But for the umpteen times a week my wife and I make the 50 mile roundtrip into the nearby "big town", we will do it on battery power. 100% battery power. No gasoline. You can have my allotment of gasoline.

Exactly! The reality is that EVs are a novelty mode of transportation for those who can afford a novelty. They are not a solution.

Bullshite. Everyone uses the bed to transport things even if rarely.

Now shite kickers maybe those are more ornamental like you say.

So you are a prepper. And tell me, the world is 7000 years old and flat.
Well even if it is only 5000 more years, we gotta do something so we can drive around or teleport or whatever.

The problem is we will all pay for this boondoggle. Are you going to pick up my portion?

You know you don't have to wring your hands about this or challenge me to assist you. I pay my taxes and so I pay my allotted personal share to our government. Just enjoy what you have and keep on trucking down the highway. Worry about 2035 mandates when the time comes. I have no problems with the EV I have. It's kind of fun to drive. It fits perfectly into what I envisioned when I decided to buy an EV.
I am seeing more and more Teslas in the adjoining "large town". People get it. Even in the East Texas piney woods.

I’ve seen that a battery replacement for an electric vehicle can cost hundreds of dollars as opposed to perhaps less than $100 for a conventional vehicle battery. If the government is so eager to get me to purchase an electric vehicle, I’d like to get a handout to help with the outrageous costs.

I think I'll charge my truck tonight for the activities of tomorrow and my 45 mile round trip which I do five or more days a week. And I don't spend a minute at a gas station unless I want a soft drink.

If you spent 80k on that truck vs 55k for a similar gas model, you'll never recoup that cost. Maybe that's worth it to you but to many it's not.

Ford reportedly lost $34,000 on every EV it made. This year it was losing more than $58,000 on every EV.

This doesn’t seem possible.

Anyone wanna math this out?
