re: Electric Cars Are An Expensive Scam

I get the feeling these directives get pushed back by the Dems or outright gutted by the GOP before 2030. It’s just not enough time to do it.
I agree. I am not a proponent of these meddling mandates intended for social engineering. In fact I hate government shoving shite on us.

The realistic, environmentally friendly goal is requiring all new vehicles to be hybrids by 2030. Hybrid power trains can be manufactured cheaply and reliably now. It will not dramatically raise the floor on the market for new vehicles. It will complicate maintenance over long term ownership or buying used but not nearly to the degree of LiIon batteries.
By all means look at hybrids.

My car is a turbo 4 with mild hybrid and it has great off the line speed because of the hybrid.
Mine also has great off the line speed. And when someone is dawdling along the way, my passes like a bitch. Like throw your head back acceleration.

Electric cars are impractical is so many ways, it would be hard to reduce it to a top ten list.
My top problems with EVs as a guy who likes autos but also wants to see less civilian dependence on petroleum:
1) On-the-road power delivery is a hot mess. Everyone seems to be falling in on the Tesla standard in the United States. Would not be surprised if a decade from now Tesla is less known for their automobiles and more for their Supercharger locations. Still a huge deficit on charger availability compared to gas stations.
2) MSRP for vehicles of all types will go up in a rapid transition. Manufacturers have to pass the R&D on to the customers and making an EV is a good bit different than ICEs. Mercedes had to build a completely new plant in Woodstock (near their Vance plant) to just do the battery production process. You're going to see those types of expenses passed on when comparing an EQS to S class. And inarguably, it is a better buy to get the S class with an ICE than the EQS with an battery.
The car market is already pretty stupid. It is hard to find a new car under 20k anymore. If the Corolla, Civic, Elantra, and Altima must be EVs then we're probably going to be saying "it is hard to find a new car under 30k" in the 2030s.
3) I am not confident that the next ecological benefit is going to work out on EVs because the energy charging them will still be mostly "dirty." Furthermore, depleted lithium ion batteries are hazardous material. Also, mining lithium at the scale for EVs is not being done with benign panhandling. It is going to require destructive strip mining...so uh, not exactly confident this is truly "green."

When the country finally has to face the hard choices, we will generate a much higher proportion of electricity from nuclear. But our society has to be faced with the hard choices to make the choice. I wonder what Greta's solution is for this?

Sums up the whole debate.
Cradle to grave cost of an ICE vehicle is less than an EV, environmental impacts are less, and that doesn't even take into account the toxic waste issue of the spent LiIon battery when the turd goes to the salvage yard.
If it weren't for the gooberment stealing our tax money to subsidize the building of EVs and pushing for the destruction of cheap fossil fuel production, they would be a rare sight anywhere.

Ford and GM will never die because the “Baw” will preorder every single turd they squeeze out and tell the dealer to name the price.

How many gallons of oil is used to power a kilowatt of electricity to charge your battery.
How many gallon of petroleum was used to mine the components of your battery. Or, did they use child labor/slaves to mine the ore?

Do you think will be awash in petroleum forever? Remember the length of history of man and the length of the era of petroleum. We have a long way to go and a long way without abundant petroleum.
Humans will be long gone before we run out of oil.

Anything GREEN is a scam
Not true
Certain green energy is very good. Natural gas and nuclear are two of the greenest energies there are, if not the greenest (I will easily win an argument about why they are greener than solar and wind, or anything with a battery).
Problem is the green new deal nuts won't recognize them as green because that isn't part of the scam

It's funny how you hate people who buy EVs. It's another sign of the times. A Balkanization of our society. Dems versus Pubs. MAGA versus GOPe. Us versus them. Our race versus those other people.
I don't care how the electricity is generated (natural gas in my precinct). I don't worry about it relative to my truck or my air conditioner or table saw.
Whether in your lifetime or your kids (if you have them) we will run past peak oil. In the US increasingly, we are getting our oil not from reservoir but from source rock. That's a little oilfield lingo by the way. European countries have thousands of years of history. By the time ours reaches 500, we will be using different forms of energy. It's best to perfect that technology in the near future.
Finally, have fun in whatever vehicle you decide to buy. I don't care what you drive.

Not true. Not even close. There has been a petroleum industry since the early 1900s. We are just over a hundred years lin. Humans in our form have been around for 200,000 years. I'd bet on another 100,000 at least.

China is NOT an oil producer so China doesn’t get rich off of gas powered cars.
China owns 80% of the World’s lithium so China makes huge profits off of electric cars.
China pays our politicians and China wants electric so therefore the American Government passed laws and regulations to push electric.
Needs to be said over and over! We are committing national suicide to line the pockets of our elected scum.

You must be Young.
Fifty years ago, Nuclear plants were quite popular. TVA planed on have about 17 in operation. Then President Carter and the Greenies went on the attack. Destroyed the Nuclear Power industry. TVA canceled their planned plants and ceased construction on some half completed. Power companies bent the knee to "Environmentalists" and shut down operational power plants in New England and California.
Some things never change.
Now the rising seas are the danger. Right!
Idiots will believe anything.
