Lee was terribly conflicted over which side he would join. Back then loyalty to your state was barely ahead of loyalty to the country.
Had he chosen to lead the union army, the war would have been over in a few months.

Didn't Lincoln ask Lee to fight for the north and Lee turned him down?
Lincoln asked him to be Commander of the Union Armies. Had Virginia not seceded, Lee would have accepted. The CW would have been over in a year rather than 4.

Lee was a great general because he had great generals under him. Especially General Thomas Jackson. Many of the early battles of the war were won because of GTJ's amazing logistical manuvering of his troops which gave him battle field advantages. I think it's very interesting that the disaster of Gettysburg happened after GTJ was killed. Especially, when you consider that his ability to manuver troops is exactly what was needed in that battle. Imho the South would have won that battle if GTJ had been there and possibly the entire war. That's why I think God called him home at that crtical moment because I'm not sure we win WW1 or WW2 with a divided nation.

What makes you think slavery would have ended just with industrialization. You know slaves could be used for more than field work.

Voting slavery is alive and well on the democRat plantation.

He's right you know. Trump can recognize greatness.

Grants great trait was his determination but if Lee had available to him the manpower and resources that Grant had Led would have wiped the floor with them.

TRUMP had a great history lesson yesterday with the Lee/Grant story, and praising underrated William McKinley - an Ohio legend!

Quite possibly his most obvious "setting of the narrative" yet. Wonder what's coming down the pipe?

Ok.

Many North American and South American citizens consider them selves Americans. So when Grant killed citizens in the Confederate States of America he was in fact killing Americans. You need to be more specific, Lee killed United States of America soldiers. Grant killed Confederate States of America soldiers. You have hubris to believe our country is the only country that can claim the American label. You are sadly mistaken.

Well, that was a huge fail.

Y'all can call them whatever you want. That doesn't make it so. The Confederate States of America was a cute name, but that's about it. They weren't American soldiers. They were rebellious traitors.

Nailed it. He was not immediately offered command of the Army of Northern Virginia. That would not come until the Peninsula Campaign in 1862 when Lee assumed command from Joseph E. Johnston. Prior to then he served as the military advisor for President Jefferson Davis.

Well that settles it. I guess Jefferson and Madison were full of shite when they opined on the compact theory in the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions.

Yeah that is by choice, legally. What about you? Ohio has nothing to do with the South or the SEC, yet here you are. Your politics seem more aligned with trolling than discussion. So what’s gig?

I know. Lee should've been imprisoned for it.

Are you saying I'm here illegally or against my will?

I'm more Southern than you are. I also probably have more of a connection to U of Gump than you.
