But Lee was too honorable of a gentleman to do something like that as IIRC, he believed that war should be fought on an open battlefield and open seas and thus he lost against more firepower and manpower.

I almost typed this, if Lee developes trench warfare at the outset instead of Petersburg they could have bled the union into a treaty of some sort, just wasn’t going to happen in that era that still fought wars with a chivalrous napoleonic code.

First of all. Not a civil war. War of northern aggression. After bull run it was over but Lee pulled back thinking the north fold but the winners get to write history.

It is a mistake and unfair to judge figures of the past by modern standards. You should only judge them by the standards of their time. General Robert E. Lee was a gentleman, who was loyal to his home and family. Therefore, Lee should at least be considered a good, if not great, man by the standards of his time.

Lee was a great American and Confederate military mind.

He got beaten at Gettysburg and earned the blame for that substantial loss. Had he been betterthere, history would be drastically changed.

The only way that ever wouldve happened would be if the Morth sued for peace.Way too many resources and men

Undoubtedly a great General but Lee made a horrible tactical mistake with Picketts charge in Gettysburg

I'd love for a liberal on here to watch the whole clip and genuinely tell me what is outrageous?

He was building up Lee in order to heap praise on Ohio-native Grant, saying that a working class, rag tag general ended up besting the most decorated military mind in America at the time.

Is it really controversial to say lee was a great general?

Apparently so. Leftists are going apeshit. Full on apeshit over the suggestion.

And the reference to Lee was only to complement Grant for beating him.

What’s the Orwell Quote about erasing history again?

Context doesn't matter to the left or the media. Any logical person can see he was saying Lee was a great general but Grant was able to beat him.

Doesn't matter. All you will see for the next 2 weeks is Trump praised the racist Lee.

Doesn't matter if it is a fact that Lee was a great tactician. You can't say anything positive about anyone from that time frame from the south.

Hell, it's only a matter of time before they want the Washington Monument torn down.
