This is completely false, not even the best tactician of the confederates in the war.

Confederate Tacticians
1. Nathan Bedford Forrest
2. Patrick Cleburne
3. Stonewall

Forrest and Cleburne understood war fare better than any generals on either side. They were truly exceptional.

I'm just enjoying that the usual suspect morons are upset about calling a great general a great general and acting like who he fought for matters.

Describing someone as a great general is not a character assessment. There have been many fantastic Generals in terms of strategy, tactics and operations who fought for losing sides and/or fought for causes/enemies we highly dislike.

Being upset about noting their greatness at their craft is childish.

Agree its big nothing burger.

Disagree on your "it (slavery) would have just faded away" take.
It was a storm brewing since day one. It was the fact of new states entering the union that brought it to a head. You seem to think we would have just stopped this process. The South needed representation in DC to keep slavery legal. If they allowed more states to enter the union as free they would have lost the power to control slavery long before any industrial revolution and there would have been the same war. The North said no more slave states would enter the union elected Lincoln because of this and we had war.
The war started when it did because both sides took a stand on new states that were to enter the union. Unless one thinks this process could have been stopped there is only one conclusion as to whether the war could have been prevented.

So dumb.

If I say that Guderian or Rommel were great generals, does that mean I am praising the Nazis?

The left is so obnoxious.

Many people know Lincoln's secretary Kennedy warned him not to go to the theater.

What most people don't know is that Lincoln's other secretary, Trump, bought him tickets and said "Many people are saying 'Our American Cousin' is the greatest play in history - this I can tell you."

Lee is hardly a villain in American history.
Other than the part where his army killed American soldiers, of course.
So did Grant and Sherman ... and they killed civilians, too.

Gotta give you some props, every time Southern generals are mentioned everyone goes for the big named prospects. This is probably the first time I've seen Cleburne mentioned.

Who is doing that? Point them out and I'd probably agree. I didn't read the thread that intently, but I didn't see that happening.

Thats a great list. Forrest was nothing but a witch. The finest soldier of the war.
I believe Albert Sidney Johnston would have been high on any list had he not fallen at Shiloh.

The reason it’s called the civil war is because the south peacefully asked for equal representation in government as the high taxes the south paid funded the country yet we still didn’t have much of a voice in government due to our low population.

Yeah...I'm going to call BS on this one. Sure, the South was not as highly represented in the House as the North was, but that wasn't true for the Senate. Slave states actually held a majority in the Senate and were thus able to balance out and/or compromise with legislation that was passed in the House of Representatives.

The South seceded because a Republican candidate (one who had vowed to prevent the expansion of slavery into the western territories) was elected President of the United States without winning a single southern state and without winning even 40% of the popular vote nationwide. The South's hold on the Senate would die as new states from west of the Mississippi came into the Union as free instead of slave, and eventually the North would be able to legislate slavery out of existence through sheer numbers.

That is why they seceded. It had nothing to do with high taxes or tariffs. It had everything to do with slavery and the balance of power in Congress.
